Our house build was very unusual in that respect. The vast majority of the labor was white guys. Foundation and drywall were the only Mexican crews in the whole process. That's really surprising to me.

Looking at the demographics of our county, I guess it isn't totally surprising. It's something like 92% Caucasian as of the latest census. Like, if our county was a person, it would listen to Dave Matthews Band. It's really white. Almost suspiciously white.
Haha, brilliant

My builders seem like a good bunch actually. I'll get them beer and texas chicken towards the end of the job

The brickies might have had one black parent/grandparent. I know the plasterer who's coming at the end of the job has a black grandfather. The carpenters are all white and Welsh so far.

I've been told that the Polish are the Latinos of the EU so far as emigrating throughout the union and doing all the hands-on-hammers construction jobs.

Can Confirm. I worked with one on a construction site back in the day actually. He was a construction surveyor in and around London before he came here. Awful stories. Hard worker. Deadly accurate resections. he was awesome.

Yeah, on the big sites particularly. Loads of them, not just Polish, eastern Europeans in general. Romanians, Albanians, Estonians, Czechs... the company i used to work at nr London also had heaps of Indians and Pakistanis.

A mate of mine has this on the wall in his kitchen and it seems to work pretty well:

What you think? The clips half way down the page where you can toggle the reverb on and off is quite cool. Basically, I was thinking of sticking this shit on the walls at either end of the room.

That's weird - I only got the one special offer popup - aside from that it was fine.

I have ad-blocks and pop-up blockers. That site ran through my defenses like Nazis through Poland.

Ditto.
My living room has diagonal wood paneling, (and a vaulted timber ceiling), like a sauna so I'm averse to interior wall wood simply for that reason. I see it and look for steam.

I like the look JD but might be a bugger to keep clean. The reverb sample was interesting... I don't necessarily believe it though. That was a large room with a reflective floor and then nothing... hmm. I'm sure it helps, perhaps not so much as they're saying though.
Yeah, basically, I think I'll give it a go. They're not gonna make the room worse... even if they just end up being feature walls. I can always add more treatment too them afterwards.

I like that stuff. I might end up using it as a feature wall in my studio too, someday. I think it looks cool.

I'll probably need less than 8sq metres of it to do both ends of the room... you'll need a few rainforest's worth!

Not sure of this a good thing in the long term, but my new room already seems comparatively dead... I think it's cos of the sloping ceiling so I don't have wall facing each other. Obviously there's no treatment up yet, it's just bare plaster.

Oh... I just came across this:
https://www.thomann.co.uk/thomann_studi ... l_wood.htm
Seems very reasonably priced. Just browsing through desks on the Thomann website... they're a) really reasonably priced, b) actually already have quirky things that I was going to build myself already included, monitor spots, somewhere to rack my interface etc. Something I hadn't thought of was the keyboard shelf. That'll save me even more floor space!

I like that desk JD. Price in't awful either.

IS the perforated board full of holes there for cable management ? It can't just be an esthetic thing?

In regard to your room sounding a little dead don't forget you can add some mirrors and shit in there if you have to as treatment to get some waves bouncing. But i feel like we do so much treatment in post having a completely dead space might not be a bad thing at all.

How's it going to work with your sloping ceiling, or am I misunderstanding your intended layout? Thinking specifically of the monitors sitting up on the rotating platforms, or the one on the left, anyway.
Yeah, i need to get up there and take some measurements

Desk Choice - I've narrowed it down to two:

Desk 1
https://www.thomann.co.uk/thomann_studi ... l_wood.htm
Pros - Cheeper, I prefer the look of it, wider work space, monitor swivels, headphone hooks.
Cons - Higher - the speakers will be right against the sloping ceiling, cheap - shit quality? The under shelf might not be big enough for a full piano.

Desk 2
https://www.thomann.co.uk/glorious_soun ... walnut.htm
Pros - Looks fucking solid! Total height is slightly lower, under shelf is specifically for a piano.
Cons - Price, not as pretty, no headphone hooks, no monitor swivels (I don't really care)

I'm leaning towards Desk 2. The extra floor space generated by the piano shelf is a big win... but the price.

Headphone hooks seems to be the most trivial of issues since you can always install your own.

Your keyboard being unable to fit seems pretty breaking thought!

Yeah, I hadn't considered that I may be able to eliminate the keyboard stand in the new room, now that its a possibility I really want to make sure it happens!
