I do actually have some new gear coming. A while back I placed an order at Sweetwater for a nice new mic stand (K&M "extra tall") and holy crap, that thing is a beast of a stand. It's a tripod, but it's weighted. And just the base extends up to 6' tall, and the boom arm is something like 42". Perfect for drum overheads, and a great break from the crappy Musician's Gear and On-Stage stands that I have.

As part of that order, I also put in for an SSL 2+ audio interface to review on my YT channel. It was backordered for months, and it finally arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward to playing with it, since it's in such high demand.

And finally I'm doing some computer upgrades yet again. I'm finally ditching the rackmount server chassis and moving to a be quiet! Pure Base 500DX chassis. And my power supply has been on the fritz lately so I got a beefy 850W PSU from Thermaltake. And since no modern mid-tower chassis that I could find can hold all of my various HDDs, I'm consolidating to a single Samsung QVO 4TB SSD. That's a big honkin' SSD and it cost a pretty penny. But I'll be left with a streamlined and very attractive desktop system to house my beastly audio/video/gaming computer.

It'll be an interesting week as I get this stuff assembled.
The long story short is my buddy would rather use a 57 or a 58 for most things. He hates the top end on the Telefunken M80 so he never used them. I use at my jam and I like it. My voice is very bassy so the added top end helps a lot. I think. I'm not sure as I'm on stage singing and can't hear what it sounds like.

Now get this, when we were drinking the night he gave them to me he was telling me about his favorite mic when recording acoustic guitar. He uses a 58. I laughed my ass off. But this guy used to run monitors and then front of house for Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule. He's currently production manager for Sturgill Simpson when he's not production manager for Willie Nelson. In fact, we just did a project about a month ago (when it's done I'll be posting it) and he mic'd my AC30 with a vintage 57 that he got for short money

Sounds like he's probably a great player who knows how to dial in a tone. He'd probably sound good with a karaoke mic recorded onto a wax cylinder.

He's the guy that used 12 SM 58s on a drum set for a gig, including the kick, and it still sounded like it should have. I'll post some pics when I go to his studio. He's booked 5 albums to record from different local artists. He needs to use my Princeton for one of the sessions. So he's letting me and some buddies record there on Wednesday. Should be fun. And yes, he's that good.

I got this:

https://www.petersontuners.com/products/stroboStompHD/

And I got this:

https://www.boss.info/us/products/sy-1/

... There's a lot of youtube vids praising it

The tuner is awesome ...... and absolutely clearly visible in the very brightest direct sunlight ....... I took it outside at noon and it was as freakin' bright as you'll ever see ...... didn't affect the visibility at all.

I can't really tell ya' anything about the SY-1 'cause when I unpacked it, I set it aside while I moved some things around to get ready for the house appraisal tomorrow and now I can't find it!!

The link to the SY1 gave me some grief so I just did a Utub search and yes...very cool...particularly given you can run wet & dry.
The EHX technology for their 9 series really has opened up a new world for all the pedal makers.
Wooooooah, that Synth pedal is AUS$300+ in Australia. Yep, a 200 less than EHX Mel9 price.
Cheers

I found the Sy-1 and played with it a bit.
I love weird sound pedals and I also have a B9 Organ Machine and the Key9 ...... the SY-1 tracks WAY better ...... there's no latency that I can hear and you don't have to be as careful with your technique as you do with the EH pedals.
I still like 'em though ..... I also have a POG 2 and a Ravish Sitar.

But the SY-1 tracks perfectly ..... it's pretty amazing.

Yeah, something is funky with those links. I get a page a Sweetwater telling me that I'm offline. No idea what's up with that.

That SY-1 looks pretty cool. I've never gotten along with synth pedals very well. I don't know what it is in the way that I play but I just fight them, and they fight back. Strangely, that's the same way that I describe playing my Jazzmaster with .012 strings on it, but that's different. Synth pedals just don't like the way that I play for some reason. I sold off my Mel9, which was a really cool pedal. But that thing was just a disaster for me.

I'd love to hear some cool stuff through that pedal!

Links worked perfectly for me but I changed 'em to the manufacturers page.
Hopefully that'll work properly.

Tadpui ......I hear ya' on the E.H. pedals being a disaster.
I have the Key 9 and the B 9 and both of them are hard to get anything that doesn't suck out of them ..... describing them as a fight is an understatement.
They both require a special technique just for them and I don't have the patience for it except in very small doses and even then I have to mix in some dry signal for it to work even passably well.
I find the Key 9 to be a bit easier because a keyboard's attack is similar to a guitars' so you don't have to alter your technique as much.
But they're both fairly difficult to use and I imagine the Mel 9 is the same way.

But I'm tellin' ya' the SY-1 is different.
It's so good I may very well ditch the Key 9 and B 9.

You play your guitar like you always do and it responds like you're used to .... it just replaces your guitars sound with synth sounds.
Literally anyone could use it ..... it responds exactly the same as your guitar does.

It's amazing in that regard.
All the problems you had with the EH pedals simply don't exist with the SY-1.

I was floored TBH ..... lot on my plate the next week but then I'm gonna do some clips of it.

I thought of getting a piano but I didn't have room on my pedalboard

I actually used to try painting along with Bob Ross way back in the day. Like, I really tried it.

It was not good. My accidents were not happy accidents and my trees were definitely not friendly little happy trees.

While I enjoyed Bob Ross, William Alexander was way more entertaining and, dare I say, a better painter and instructor.

Hahaha, man I know how you feel. I took an oil painting class in college (the only class where I ever snuck off to smoke weed on an elementary school jungle gym, but that's a different story). I was so bad at oil painting that even the encouraging professor had trouble passing me. I finally threw away the wastes of canvases that I had accrued from that class. Something about that floppy tip of a paint brush doesn't agree with anything that I'm capable of. I can paint a wall. But I can't paint a painting.
