Ready for vocals?

This is my first time making a beat. Dunno what I’m gonna do with it to be honest. I can’t rap.

Interesting - initially but the lack of variation in the beat and bass left it a very long listen.
The addition of a rap vocal with some variation in metre and such would make a significant difference though.
I'm not really one to comment though as I've not been able to get my head around the genre since Rapper's Delight.

Thanks, that’s what I’m thinking. I added in some guitar at the end, but I think the vocals will make the difference between just being boring and something to listen to all the way through.

Generally. I think it's less common in "lo-fi beats" tho. Usually, you want more of a "chill" vibe for that genre.

I'd probably dial the kick back a little. Did you HPF it too? I might turn it down and give it a lot more low end if it were my mix.

Can do. I didn’t use a filter except for on the piano. I might just use one of my low end plugs and see how it feels.

I think it has LOTS of potential. . . rap is definitely not my thing but I totally love the tinkering piano! The whole thing has a rather "catchy" feel to it (maybe hypnotizing?) I agree with [mention]JD01[/mention] that the kick it rather dominate but, that may be a rap thing too. Like I said, love the piano tinkerings!

Thanks! I think the piano is what makes it, to be honest. It’s from a Mozart piece in D minor.

It's not bad. Are the crackles there on purpose? They might add a nice color, tough to say without hearing the full thing.

I think the kick is pretty loud. It's a little woofy too. Rap typically has a real tight kick. You might want to EQ out some stuff in the 600hz range.

And then roll off the very low end of the bass - like below 50hz or so.

Maybe check out Librivox? You can layer in a free recording of someone reading a passage from an public domain book.

I've used it a time or two I think to good effect.

I put Ben Crystal’s Hamlet Monologue over it. I really wish the audio quality was better, because it’s a perfect fit timing wise.

Try an FFT filter for noise reduction on the monolog? If you can get the noise floor down, you have a lot more options for getting it sit in the mix. (and can flat out mute the crowd noise during the pauses)
