I didn't get electrocuted the first time...let's try another!!!

Update:
Used this thing at practice last night. Worked flawlessly and sounds freaking awesome. Best drip-verb sound I've ever heard. I really lucked out!

Some, not all the time. I think most of my surf style stuff leans more towards traditional or almost rockabilly style, sort of, kind of.

I think I hit a home run with one swing on this thing. I've got a few hard hours on it now, no hiccups. Went back in today to check voltages and verify everything still looks good....still looks good.

Update on this little drippy bitch....
I got a hold of a vintage NOS 6K6GT tube and a vintage correct output transformer that's supposed to be in this thing. So in they went.
Tones to come....

won't be as purple and yellow as mine

interested in the difference the tranny might make .... and the tube ..... well i'm not a big believer in huge differences between tubes but the tranny ..... that may be a big deal

The tubes are quite different though. A 6K6 is a lot different from a 6V6, even though they are in the same family.
I've had the wrong OT in this reverb since day one, but I used it because I already had it and I knew it would work. It just wasn't the ideal transformer. The primary impedance was off for a 6V6.
With this updated transformer the 6V6 biases around 65% - really safe but also really mild for a single ended cathode bias amp. That might be a good thing.
The 6K6 biases slightly over 100%, which in a guitar amp could be cool, but this thing is driving a reverb pan, not a speaker. It might be too much and if so I'll need to change the cathode resistor to bring it's dissipation down some. Or just stick the 6V6 back in it.
The tube isn't that important to me. Having the right OT is.

actually I missed that it's a completely different tube .... obviously that'll sound different.
And actually since this is a reverb unit it could well be more sensitive to changes in tubes or parts.
Isn't this a Weber kit?
Why did you have the wrong output tranny?

A long time ago a friend of mine gave me an OT reverb driver for a different build. It's the same type of driver that's in your Fender kit. It's spec'd for a 12AT7. These things aren't that particular so I used it since I already had it on hand and it is the right type of transformer - a tiny low watt single-ended output transformer. It has too high a primary impedance though for 6V6 and an 8ohm reverb pan, so it's basically like having an amp/cab mismatch. Not a big deal, but I wanted to have everything just right so I put the correct OT driver in it. And since I was also given this vintage tube that would have come in the original Fender reverbs, it was a no-brainer to just do it up right.

Wow this made a big difference. The range is much more usable and more 3D sounding. Very cool. I didn't expect this much of a change.

Re: I didn't get electrocuted the first time...let's try another!!!
hmmm ..... wonder if I could put that in my amp.
my verb is wonderful sounding but the usable range is almost nil ..... at 8 'o' clock on the verb knob it's LOTS of verb ..... it's actually difficult to fine tune it to where there's just a touch of 'verb.
Or maybe I could use a different tube for my verb driver?
Re: I didn't get electrocuted the first time...let's try another!!!
I will. I'll be making some tone clips tonight.
You can't try 6K6 power tubes. The plate voltage in your amp is way too high. This little reverb is basically a Fender Champ that drives a reverb tank instead of a speaker. And even in this thing I'm right on the edge of what a 6K6 can handle. Your Deluxe Reverb will blow them up in no time.Lt. You can try a milder reverb driver tube. It would be V3. You currently have a 12AT7 there. A 12AU7 would be a much lower gain tube in that spot. This would be the easiest. I don't know how well it will work, but it's easy.
Another option, and probably most effective, is a smaller reverb tank. The reverb in your amp is pretty much the baddest one they make. You could downsize it considerably. Consult with me first before you try this route though. There are a lot of considerations with reverb tanks that need to be just right.
And finally you could swap some resistors in the circuit, but this is a pretty hardcore option that still may not get you what you want.
