I'd acquire the lumber and some sandpaper then fulminate before pronouncing "yeah, nah!" and walking away.

You need to find a way of Franksteining my approach of just get the saw and drill out and starting building stuff, blues adlib jam style, with your approach of planning everything meticulously and it being perfect... or you'll be retired by the time you get to use your studio!

Were you the kid at school that spend three weeks making up the ultimate revision/study timetable for themselves but didn't leave enough time to revise?

Only joking, mate. I wish I had your commitment to getting shit right, and I know you've been busy as fuck recently.
Lol it's funny this is the only thing i have built recently that wasn't a Frankenstein hack and tack thing. Everything else was on the fly make it work. Beyond just having an idea in my head that was as far as planning went. The traps took a couple tries, the t-shirt thing was literally "hey i am going to do this this way now instead of one shirt per panel." problem solving on the fly is how i work best. For whatever reason i felt tha twhere the desk is some sort of mega structure in comparion to a bass trap i needed to have it hurrican proof or whatever. I'm dumb. But i learned a lot.

I was the kid that went skateboarding for three weeks and didn't leave enough time to do the school work. :lollers2: :lollers2:

Thanks guys, I am almost done.

Solid looking - will it require a reinforced floor?

Nice! The stain/grain on the legs (especially the right side) stands out nicely.

I can't help but ask -- how did you join the legs to the desktop?

Sorry SD just sort of seeing this now. The legs were the trickiest part for me. Becasue I was making them out of fairly old and weathered stringer support lumber from old shipping pallets they weren't straight, sort of twisted and sort of bowed etc. Fantastic hardwoods, but yea, not stright but not awful. Most most people that do this for a living would probably have strong words for me.

After figuring shit out for a while and to simply make use of my time and resources i just went with simple lego block and screws attachment methods :lollers2: :lollers2: . There is no fancy joinery here at all.

I put a couple boards along width ways that i could screw and shim the legs too:

Image
Image

and that board is fastened to the bottom of the desk with a few screws and a bit of support. In hindsight this was sort of stupid. even though i staggered and offset the screws so that they weren't in a linear line up when i stood it up it was as wobbly as a bowl of jello.

Image

Given how wobbly it was it reinforced the back legs with these things and it took 98% of the play out of the desk.
Image

So to try and remedy that last 2% without eating up too much leg real estate at the front of the desk i jammed these little corner braces in and that ate up about 1.5% of the play and wobble in the front end.

Image

At the end of the day there is the tiniest little bit of wobble and play on the front right leg, but i can live with it. It is sturdy as heck really. It may not be bang-my-wife-in-the-heat-of-the-moment sturdy but it is defintiely able to hold some weight and take the odd bump from the dogs or myself for sure and remain in tact.

I have to make another one for my wife in the next few months with the remaining hardwood flooring so i will correct a lot of the things i did wrong on this one on that one. She will get the good one  :like: :like: :robus:

Cool; thanks for the explanation and snapshots. Sounds like some of the appearance of and nice patterns in the stain on the wood was due to the lumber still being pretty rough.

I know how it goes about having to make a few of a thing before you really get the hang of it, and there's always something to learn, some new trick to make the next one turn out better. It doesn't even have to be a "trick", it can just be something as simple as "remember to sand that part before attaching the other part..."

Mice? Or did your pups do that? (My dog will eat almost anything...but acoustic ceiling tiles? Was there peanut butter smeared on the tiles or something?! lol)

Ok, so i got everything in place, the largest part of the wall treatments are up,JD's cocksucking clouds are up (i am ordering little metal tag plates to have them christened as such, as they were more of a bitch to hang up than the stupid diffusor and wall-ceilsing corner trap on the rear wall), new ceiling tiles are in place and i believe i have my listening space pretty well mint. And lemme tell ya. I have been listening to Armi's last record and a bunch of yall's stuff     Mind blowing the difference. :eep: :eep: :eep: I can now actually SEE the stereo image of the music. If that makes sense? I couldn't really before. I kind of could but it was no where near as 3D as what i got going on now. I thought Armi's vocals popped in my last set up. Now it's like having him right in front me.

Pics and vids in the coming days / week. Actually videos will have to wait a while cause i just want to track some stuff before i go mucking around learning new software / skills.

So glad i took this on. I am pleased as piss. Long wait was fucking worth it. :like:

I still have the slightest bit of flutter echo coming from what sounds like my left side but i think i can zero in on that with maybe some different sort of wall / ceiling corner traps or maybe really high shelves full of books.

Awesome! I need to look into doing some more stuff like that around here. I don't need much but in a few choice spots it will make a huge difference.

I am grumbling but it was the right thing to do. :like: The difference i hear from my listening position now is so great i have no argument for not having them. For as much as i would like to A/B the listening position with and without the clouds, i am not going to. I didn't like hanging those up. not that anyone asked but i just recycled my old first reflection point wall mounted panels and re stuffed them with better thicker material and hung them off the ceiling grid.
