Rush drum geek - good drummer

Post by Greg_L »

Lol this dude took his kit to Rush's abandoned LeStudio just to record a drum cover in the same room as the great Neil Peart. I must say he did a fine job.

He does a great job on one of Rush's more tolerable songs. I don't know about the riding on the crash thing, but I have an aversion to that. I know a lot of drummers do it, I just can't stand it. Not sure if Peart does it in the original. He probably does since this guys seems to have cloned the drum part 100%. He seems to have learned the song perfectly, but his playing leaves me empty and emotionless.

I can't play that song, or any Rush song, so anyone that can is doing okay to me!

Don't get me wrong, he's more than ok. It would take me a while to learn that song, too. It just comes off a little paint-by-numbers.

Well it is. It's damn near an exact cover. It might be totally exact. I can't wrap my head around any of it so it seems pretty exact to me. Neil Peart might say "well he didn't ratamacue the paradiddle like he should have" but that's way way above my pay grade. lollers

Well with all this Rush talk I've slipped into a kimono and I'm wearing one shoe.

You should go buy their old studio. It's in Canada. It's gotta be close by if it's in Canada.

If it's in Morin Heughts, I live about a 30 minute drive away. I gigged in Morin Heights, there was a great club there.

That was pretty cool! Rush is one of my favorite bands. That guy has the riffs down he just needs to tighten up his timing.
Another toy that helped destroy the elder race of man..forget about your silly whim it doesn't fit the plan.

It's sad to see a studio - well a building - in a state of abandonment & disrepair. Like George Martin's studio in the Caribbean - but at least he had a good excuse - hurricane damage. I've bought three Rush albums in an attempt to GET it - but I can't. I'm a failure at Rush love - I can "appreciate" their stuff but it doesn't move me.
Cheers

Never been a Rush fan but then I'm an AM radio baby lol....
I saw them open for Nazareth when tickets were 12 bucks and they had their first hit with "In the Mood". The guitar player was super pissed when somebody threw a sparkler on top of the Score Clock (how I'll never know) and it started a fire. They turned on all the arena lights and the guitar player said something like "fuck this shit" and stomped off the stage. Somebody put out the fire with one of those old water pump extinguishers and the crowd cheered and Rush came back on to play their set. Ah the joys of rock concerts.
TBH I never could understand their appeal but then some people don't like Abba so there's no accounting for taste. :)
People want something for nothing, they want it right now. Either they can't tell quality or don't care but feel it is important that everyone agrees with them.

I'm like many others. I appreciate their musicianship, but I could never get into their songs.

I've actually seen them live 3 times, at a time when I'd go to pretty much any big concert at the Montreal Forum. Max Webster opened for them every time, and I actually liked them better than Rush.

I have a strange soft spot for Rush. I'm not a super fan, but I can tolerate some of their dorky weirdness much more than I can tolerate other proggy shit.

When I was much younger and "experimenting", there was this planetarium in town that had laser shows. You'd sit in these leaned back chairs and stare at a domed ceiling and they'd play music and shine lasers everywhere. They only played three bands - Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Rush. Well Hendrix and Floyd were out of the question for me. They're both horrid shit that to this day I still cannot stand to hear. So I had to pop my ludes and settle on Rush. I ended up liking Rush as a result of these forced drug experiments. Go figure.
