Low bleed headphones?
Low bleed headphones?
For tracking I've always just used my old focusrite closed back headphones but they bleed too much.
I like to have my metronome up quite loud, that's fine with electric songs cos they mostly have drums and it's completely drowned out. But it's been a persistent problem when singing and recording acoustic, any recommendations?

My Beyerdynamics DT770 Pros are designed to be good isolation phones and they do that very well ..... I'll track with an amp sitting right by me and I don't really hear it.
I'd assume if they're good at keeping outside sounds from coming in they'd also be good and keeping inside sound from leaking out..... and brilliant phones to boot.

Cheers Steve, they're not too pricey either.Lt. Bob wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 4:04 pm My Beyerdynamics DT770 Pros are designed to be good isolation phones and they do that very well ..... I'll track with an amp sitting right by me and I don't really hear it.

Re: Low bleed headphones?
My go-to headphone for years now is TH200-Xs. They're frequently (and currently) on sale for $30
https://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-aud ... 2000000000
I've never had problems with bleed from them
(It's funny that they're marked down from "$55" when historically, it's been $120!)

Hmmm, you seem to have sent me a link to a 3 grand amp... that link probably didn't make it across the pond.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 4:16 pm My go-to headphone for years now is TH200-Xs. They're frequently (and currently) on sale for $30

I use actual ISO headphones for tracking.

Re: Low bleed headphones?
I have some problems with metronome bleed as well. Mostly I use Sennheiser HD 240 pro for tracking but my one gripe with them is that the reaper metronome bleeds through them like they're loudspeakers when I'm recording acoustic guitar.
I need to spend some time playing with the reaper metronome settings, because I think you can set the frequency of the "one" and other beats separately. Maybe there's a frequency that I can hear better than won't bleed as much.

Re: Low bleed headphones?
I like that the metronome cuts straight through the mix though, few options on here. I'll look at getting them next month.

You can set the "beeps" to whatever you want.Tadpui wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 9:30 pm I have some problems with metronome bleed as well. Right-click the metronome button and all kinds of shit pops up.
I keep mine pretty low frequency...like 700-500hz

This is the way.
Re: Low bleed headphones?
You can get in-ear monitors. Even cheap ones will avoid the bleed.
Re: Low bleed headphones?
Just had a thought, later I'm gonna record some metronome bleed and phase flip it.

Re: Low bleed headphones?
As in... you just stand quietly in front of the mic with your headphones on?

Yeah.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 1:22 pm As in... you just stand quietly in front of the mic with your headphones on?
Re: Low bleed headphones?
You don't have to stand there wearing the headphone, you can just put them on a stand and record it through the mic.
It will be close enough to cancel it out.

Re: Low bleed headphones?
Interesting.
I guess no matter what you do, the best you could hope for is "close" enough. Unless you're able to keep your head perfectly still while tracking vocals, the distances will always vary by just a little bit vs the stable bleed track
