You can always go with Anish Kapoor jokes for more shades of black.

Holy smokes tad that is one killer room. You aced it with those clouds man. So impressed with the built in lights though.

Ive often looked at those Hue lights but my wife is not on board with the wifi controls and needing and app and all that stuff so she killed the dream on those. I wanted to put some of the strip lights in the kitchen and downstairs living room. Alas...

I agree with K, I can't bare the thought of having random shit in my house connected to the internet. Some people have their fucking fridges connected up these days. Fuck that.

In the room, they're basically invisible. They blend into the black ceiling and I can't even tell the panels are there. I had to fiddle with my fancy camera to get it to show that the panels are there but I got a shot of them in action:

I have to admit, I got a little teary walking into my studio for the first time and being able to flip a switch and have the lights come on. The light temperature is the default for the Hue downlights, and since I don't have internet out there yet I can't connect them to the app and dial them in. But they default to a pretty nice warm white, and the light is well distributed throughout the room. I was afraid that there would be a dark zone in the middle of the room but it's actually really well diffused.

And these things cut way down on the room reverb, which is awesome. This room was so reverberant that you couldn't have a conversation with someone in there. With just these 6 panels, it's much more controlled. I can't wait to hear it with the rest of my treatment in place.
Looks great. Are you planning to put out another YouTube video?

JD01 wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 11:58 am @Tadpui I'm guessing there's gonna be a studio tour video when you've got the room fully set up?
Yeah, I'll definitely do a video once I'm starting to move in. I'm trying to edit a video about the making of these panels but it's been very difficult on this little Surface Pro tablet/laptop. It's just so slow and frustrating. But I should be able to complete it this weekend. It'll include a quick look at the studio as it stands right now.

Thanks guys!

"just a red glow"

good sir, being able to see such massive amounts of red borealis (with the naked eye and not thru a phone) for such vivid and prolonged periods of time is the same as catching Moby Dick five times on the same voyage. A rarity if ever there was a rarity. It may not have been stunning and dancing like a whirling divrish but it was a once or twice in a lifetime event. Probably even more so profund given how far south you were.

Sending you email now!

This was the aurora view from Kansas. I've never seen anything like it. This is a bit exaggerated by the "night mode" on my phone, but it was definitely visible to the naked eye. This is beyond rare in the middle of the country.
