Recording some saxophone tracks

Post by Bill L »

My buddy Doug and I have recorded some saxophone tracks for a number of people a couple of years ago (I'll see if I can dig them up) and he just started doing it again. He's doing baritone and tenor parts for a blues tune. As we've done in the past, we did it a his house. The last few times, I've used either a Rode NT1A or an Octava MK 319. He lives on a busy street so this time we decided to use a Sennheiser E 906 (we tried a Beta 58 and it sounded great but we liked the 906 better). I'll upload some tracks here when we're done (hopefully by tomorrow). This is for a blues guy that lives in Spain. The tracks we did were for some blues guy that lives in Arizona or something named Bob Corritore.

This is a late 50s bari

You can check out his wiki page if anyone is interested

I should be able to upload some tracks over the next couple of days.

Nice!

I sometimes wish I knew (and owned) some reed instruments for my recordings. I'd love to be able to do the standard trumpet, trombone, sax ska trio for my songs.

If you ever want some tracks, let me know. I know a lot of horn players.

This was the result. The producer is telling us to take our time (Doug has just recently gone through a pretty tough run with bladder cancer) so we've decided to rewrite the horn parts with a less is more goal and to fit in better with the vocals. Having said all of that, the track was sent to us as you hear it here. The horns haven't been mixed (with the exception of a tiny bit of reverb and delay) or even eq'd. Sax straight at the E906 (with flat response) into a $50 Presonus AudioBox Go into my laptop running Reaper. I'll post up the newer tracks as we go.

Sounds good to me too .... a few timing issues here and there with the horns but I don't see how you can have less horns that that without just going to no horns at all ..... there's almost no horns there already
