Possible Guitar Change
Possible Guitar Change
Been looking at these things a lot lately
https://astrings.co.uk/collections/yama ... swift-blue
They're nice to play, seem really well made (like really well made) - they're also pretty simple and not flashy.
Basically, I'm thinking of selling my Crimson to get one... this might be a bad idea 'cos the Crimson is completely irreplaceable, but I reckon I could get north of £2.5k for the Crimson, so I'd clear about a grand.

They're really cool - I would like one. I did just free up 20 mins to actually turn my amp on and play on my Crimson though - its a great guitar and its not going anywhere! Right, back to work.Greg_L wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:32 am Hey buy this.

Re: Possible Guitar Change
That's a lot of coin for a Yamaha. I know they've always made solid dependable guitars, but I didn't think they'd gone that far north with their pricing.
Re: Possible Guitar Change
If it's good, I don't really care who makes it.
Just not been playing my Crimson much cos of work/kids etc. I think I'll wait until after the 3rd floor/new studio before I get another guitar. I mainly play on my ES135 at the moment.

Re: Possible Guitar Change
For sure. I just didn't know they made guitars that expensive!
Out of interest I checked local pricing.... mostly their guitars are $699 and $1099, but that particular version is $2699, marked down from $2999, more than double the "standard" version - which is a bit cheaper than your UK price. Conversion rate is 2:1 at the moment, so that would be $3198 - so $500 cheaper here. Might indicate some wiggle room on pricing. But what's the special sauce that makes it more than twice the price - apart from a case, I wonder?
Things are normally, after conversion, more expensive here than anywhere else - I wonder if it's because we're a bit closer, geographically - assuming they're made in Japan?

I don't think I've tried a Korean one actually, I think those Yamahas are either Japanese, Korean or Indonesian.
I was in the shop in Merthyr that sells them trying pedals a while back and I was definitely playing on the high end one, there was clear difference between that and the cheap one.

Re: Possible Guitar Change
I don't see why that guitar would cost that much. It's basically on par with an Epiphone.

Re: Possible Guitar Change
unless you're in need of money, I think getting rid of the Crimson ( which you have avowed love for ) is a BAD idea that you'll regret.
Never get rid of a guitar you love ..... you'll just end up on a search (often costly ) for another one

Yeah, you're right, Bob. I'm just trying to think of ways to save money for my loft conversion as quickly as possible... also I had to spend 4k on the most boring car in the world last week.

Re: Possible Guitar Change
I get it but I'd just take a bit longer ..... you have several times called this guitar irreplaceable ..... a $1000 just isn't going to move your project along so much faster that it's worth losing something you care about.
A wonderful guitar is worth more than just the dollars and many players never find one like that and even if you find another Crimson it could turn out the one you have is special.
