NGD….S
New guitar day….soon.
I sold my Epiphone and bought a Gibson. Standard 50s in blue.
Saw it for a little over half of what it’s worth new so I bought it.
Always a gamble when you can’t physically play the guitar, but I have yet to make an online purchase and think I made a mistake. Here’s to hoping the streak continues.

FUN~! That is super exciting !
Man i can't bring myself to buy something like a guitar online. I don't know why. I really wanted one of those Harley Benton lefty cheap ass Mosrite clones thingies but i didn't bother with it. I think the idea of something warranting a return upon opening puts me off because it seems like a lot of hassle. I don't know.

The Hofner I got turned out to be absolutely fantastic and I love it. The Gretsch is…okay. Not great, not bad. But I’m satisfied with it given I paid less than for a new one. It sounds good. It was the main guitar on the last album. And it’s very good at handling distortion given it’s a hollow body unlike the Hofner, which is a feedback machine.

Guitar came!
Because UPS is the worst and wouldn’t let me pre-sign to the package on their horrible website, I waited in the driveway for about 2 hours.
I’m not going to wait 24 hours. Maybe about 5 because A) I took it immediately off the truck and B) it’s actually not that cold today.
Some damage on the side of the box. Took pictures of that, but I think it’ll be okay.

The only decent lighting in the house and it’s hard to take pictures because if I hover over the guitar, my shadow blocks the light lol. These are the only two pics I have so far. I’ll try to find a way to take more later.
I also need to go to Best Buy to get an adapter so I can start recording it.

The back is a darker blue. Nothing interesting to look at, though. The maple top is the beauty.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:49 pm I like it crows! Very cool! Is the back blue also or just the top?!

Great axe, man. Nice looking finish. And an LP standard is a classic for a reason. Enjoy!

Thanks y’all!
@Greg_L the only adjustment I THINK I may need to do is the pickup height of the neck pickup. It’s so low that it’s practically level with the ring. I don’t know yet. I need to wait until my roommate is out of the house before I can fully test this.

It's all subjective. Go for sound and balance with the bridge pickup.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:15 pm Thanks y’all!

I drove myself nuts with my LP neck pickup height. I was trying to go by the numbers and suggested heights. But yeah like Greg said, it's really just a matter of listening for perceived volume compared to the bridge pickup. It's going to be substantially lower than the bridge pickup since the string movement is so much larger above the neck pickup compared to the bridge. Metal moving around in a magnetic field and all...more movement, more voltage generated.
I think neck pickups are generally less sensitive than bridge pickups to account for that, but I usually still end up with them farther away from the strings.

Re: NGD….S
All of mine have neck pickups about even with the ring.
This is the only LP I have out right now but I know they're all about the same.

I have always liked blue pauls ..... that's just loverly man.
For pickups I always adjust the bridge to where I like it and then simply adjust the neck to have a similar volume.
Personally I use the middle position and the neck a lot and the bridge only occasionally but I don't like volume changes when I switch although inevitably the middle position gets slightly quieter.
Well , that's parallelled .... I haven't ever tried wiring them to go in series .... but parallel you usually lose a bit because of phase cancellations

I came very close to getting a Blueberry Burst LP when I bought my Bourbon Burst LP back a few years ago... I really liked them. Just couldn't find one!
Enjoy... it looks great.

Re: NGD….S
It’s funny because I don’t think I like this color on any other guitar, but I think it just works so dang well on the LP.
I’ve wanted one ever since playing Guitar Hero 2 as a kid. I remember having a family garage sale and selling pretty much all my kid stuff to buy it. It was around that time I started playing the actual guitar as well.
Few years later, Beatles Rockband comes out and that remains the only video game my dad has ever played.
