Many People Say

Post by Mr Clean »

Here another one from my songwriting vault, a bit of a dirge. Written in 1995 when I was 17 but another one that I always kinda liked, despite the shitty lyrics but hey! I was young. So this is the 2024 re-vamp that I'm currently working on. In my typical lazy ass way I did one take on all the vocals and thought, meh, that'll do. I'll probably do them again at some point though. (I get bored when it comes to vocals.)

So far this is Acoustic, Electric & Bass Guitars, Organ, Mellotron, Pan Pipes and Erhu. Very simple stuff.

Many People Say (Test Mix 2).mp3

Lyrics

Many a man have tried, many a man have cried
Many a man have died for the love of you
But you don't feel no shame
No, you don't accept the blame
You just keep on a playing your games just like you always do

Many people say that you're no right for me, I disagree
Many people say that you're no good
Many people say one day true love may come your way
Until then, I'll wait my turn

Many a girl have passed me by, Oh many a girl have made me cry
I really hope that you don't do the same
I sit at home alone at night and I dream of you inside my mind
Hoping I can be with you someday

Many people say go find another girl and take her 'round the world
They don't understand the way I feel
Many people say one day true love will come your way
Until then I'll wait my turn

Solo

Many people say that you're no right for me, I disagree
Many people say that you're no good
Many people say one day true love may come my way
Until then, I'll wait my turn

COOOOL. What did you use for Mellotron.
I though, from the title, that it was a Trump pisstake.
Instead it's a cool thing.
The third verse is a bit okay but a bit simpy...though songs of unrequited love tend to be I suppose.
The chiming gives a little Wish You Were Here vibe for a nanosecond.
COOOL.

Cheers Ray. Yeah, it's definitely a pappy love song and was written very tongue in cheek, so to speak.

The Mellotron VST was Tapeotronic https://plugins4free.com/plugin/799/ - Not amazing but you can get some good sounds out of it.

Cool, I have that. I ofetn use the Redtron free VSTi as it has some different sounds to the tapetronic. There's a 3rd one I use as well plus the Mel( and cut n paste tape samples, ()I have an half dozen - full tron keyboard sample for each key).
Cheers

Nice sounds here, especially digging the bass. I love the space in the mix too, well done!

Sounds pretty good.

I think I'm hearing a little high-end distortion on some of the vocals? Tho as I go back and listen, I'm having trouble isolating it. Maybe around 0:42 on "gAmes"?

Maybe the next recording challenge is to re-record the least (or most) cringe song that we wrote at 17! :D
