Till The End of Time
Not sure if this song is finished or not. There's a lot I can do with it. Should I make it more complex?
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
Re: Till The End of Time
OK,
I like the slightly weird timing on some of the chord changes.
Think you've made a good job of the vocal. Sounds clear and has a nice tone to it.
Why not add some harmonies on the "oooos"
The main rhythm sounds a bit dull and boxy - I know its a nylon string - but maybe you could de-mud it and brighten i up a bit.

Thanks JD! This is just a demo of a demo to see where to take this song, but I’ll keep the EQ of the rhythm in mind! Something tells me I need to add more complexity to the verse rather than being a repetitive one, so I might just do that. Some harmonies will be a good thing, too.JD01 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 9:14 am OK,

Don't go turning it into a Yes! song whatever you do. Just add a few vocal harmonies to a few lines to add a bit of interest where you want them to stand out as the song moves along.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 9:19 amThanks JD! Re: Till The End of Time
The boxiness on the rhythm really stuck out to me too.
There's also some audible lip smacks at the start of a lot of lines.
The song's really short, so you probably don't need to add a lot of complexity. Just cleaned up a little, and it'd probably be pretty good.

I added a couple more lines to the verse and I’m good with it now. I recorded the rhythm with a 57 so I may swap that out with an AT2020. See if it sounds any different. I’ll do another recording tomorrow.

The new one is up. I think I got rid of the boxiness, but I have a new problem. My guitar is buzzing like a bee.

Man I love your voice. It is so expressive.
I find the recording a little dull, the "s" sounds on words are almost muted.
Also, on your "oo" harmony parts, maybe send them to a bus track and compress the bus a bit to glue them together. I like the parts and you sang them well but they the sounds don't quite mesh together as well as I would like them to.

I thought this was a pretty song. I liked it. I'll second the opinion on your voice. It's very nice to listen to.
I'll also second the boxy and dull comments. Mostly on the guitar but a little in the vocal too. Some pretty big low end thud on the guitar.
Oh and and the harmonies were real nice.

Re: Till The End of Time
Guitar sounds much better! That mic is picking up a bit more room too so it has more natural space to it.
Much better.
Pan your chorus of "Ooos" out a bit. Like have a central one and a central harmony with a bit more verb, then a pair at say 30%L/R and a pair at about 60%L/R

Thanks guys! I’ll pan the chorus a bit. I’m debating on whether to record vocals and guitar separately. Guess there’s no harm in trying both!

My quick reply to this is yes. Unless it is supposed to be a "live" recording, I would always record the tracks separately. Not only can you focus more on the individual performances, but the ability to isolate and work with the sounds is also a plus.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 10:58 am Thanks guys! I know some people think that they play or sing better when doing the whole deal, but after some practice at doing them individually you will get much better results going forward. If you are worried about losing some of the feel, I would suggest playing along with the combined track to record the guitar and then singing over the guitar by itself.

Re: Till The End of Time
I hear the buzz you're talking about on the acoustic, but it's definitely an improvement over the boxiness.

Awesome! Hopefully the next recording won’t have the buzz.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 11:18 am I hear the buzz you're talking about on the acoustic, but it's definitely an improvement over the boxiness.

Re: Till The End of Time
Alrighty, did my final take, which had the guitars and vocals recorded separately. Gave me more control. It's replaced in the first post.

Re: Till The End of Time
Interesting song. I like the lyrics. Your vocals are very clear. I think the rhythm guitar sounds a little like "kumbaya". . .something you'd hear at the campfire. Maybe play with some different rhythms or fingerpicking? Nice job. Is this with your new gear?
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

Re: Till The End of Time
Thanks Alison. My sub isn’t working so I think the guitar may sound a bit boomy, too. I’ll see if I can do a fingerpicking version.
Yes, I LOVE my new gear except the very quiet fax like noise you can hear if you crank it up too loud. I’ll see if using balanced cables fixes that.

Re: Till The End of Time
The guitar tone is better than the other two mixes.
Allison is right tho, something about the strumming pattern on it feels really repetitive.

Re: Till The End of Time
I like the simplicity of it...the Ooohs are a little loud for me but sounds good.
If you're de-essing I think you've overdone it - if you're not then you could ess a little more.
