Lt. Bob's archives #2

Post by Lt. Bob »

hey ..... you didn't think they were all gonna be good did ya'?
:lollers:

This one is the kind of thing I do a lot of and I never play them for anyone else because that's not really what they're for.
Things just pop into my head and I want to see what that'd sound like so I record it.
So whatever it is, I'll play things that allow me to explore the idea but I tend to take first takes or as quick as possible. I kinda record just for the sake of doing it .... no other intention.

Nothing's ever worked out in advance ..... I never sit down and write ...... it just sorta happens as I record ...... I have no idea what it'll be when I get started and I'm curious to find out.

So this one came completely from those frogs you hear at the beginning.
They were the entire reason this happened.
Everything else followed the frogs.

I have a pretty good nature sounds and sound effect library and I was going thru them and heard those frogs and their rhythm was solid enough that I said, "I think I can play a guitar along with that".

So I did the git on the right first and it worked well enough that I added the 2nd guitar on the left.
Then I added the bass and a tympani ( I love tympani's ) and a couple more guitars for a center section and I sorta lost control of it after that.

That was cool. Some of the tone on the outgoing solo reminded my of Robert Fripp's Tone on No Pussyfooting. It sounded as organic as can be - natural arrangement and development - bloody good actually.
Cheers

Very nice.
awesome youtube comment of the day
Bill and Ted time traveled and brought a bass player from 1973, a drummer from 1984 and a guitar player from 1995. Now they're spreading peace all over the world 🌎

That was nice.

I might have faded the night sounds more gradually if I'd done it, but I'd be laboring under the idea that it shouldn't be noticed at all. (Boil a frog, fade a frog; same premise, right?)

Wow, this is so cool! The beginning was a bit reminiscent of the Beatles. Love the frog element, it reminds me of our area when we used to get rain. . . like @musicturtle said, very relaxing! Your playing is outstanding!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

Thanks all ..... I really like doing these things ..... no pressure and no trying to fit within some pre-determined form ..... just playing with sounds.

Lovely acoustic sounds Bob - in fact all the sounds are good. Sounds like something that would fit on one of the weird pre-meddle Floyd Albums, like Atom Heart Mother or Obscured By Clouds.

I wouldn't have had the frogs quite so high in the mix, but they're OK when all the instrumentation comes in.

It's kindest to give them a break. They've had a lot of trouble getting work since they lost the Budweiser contract.

You had me at tympanis. I too love them. When i hear them. I don't ever make anything that warrant their use. But they are a great percussion tool dude.

Very cool jam @Lt. Bob those guits sound really really good. I will have to show this to the wife she falls asleep everynight to peepers or crickets. I think she'd like this.

One of the nice things about living in Nashville is that you'll go to a party, and the dude who busts out an acoustic guitar is soundly ignored in favor of the spontaneous trio that just formed because the cellist came here straight from a gig, and the host's upright is already out, and someone had a ukulele of course!

I find the uke thing funny.
I remember reading about some supposedly amazing uke player a few years back and I sorta figured he'd be something like a good mando player burning thru riffs and scales and that sorta thing.
But no, all he did was play the usual uke chords but strum them really fast!
It was laughable but the uke world was going nuts.

A ukulady by herself might be on par with White Dude Playing "Wonderwall", but as part of an impromptu band, it's usually pretty cool.

Plus ukuleles are super easy to ignore if you don't like them.
