Migrating tracks to a new project directory
Migrating tracks to a new project directory
OK, so I've set up a new project off a new template and saved it in the directory.
Then I've opened up the old project and dropped the recorded tracks into place so they're now playing in the new template.
However, all the tracks are still saved in the old project which is supposed to be bound for the archieve.
Anyone know how I automatically copy all of the tracks that are in use from their old location to the location where the project is actually saved?
Cheers,

Re: Migrating tracks to a new project directory
I'll do periodic "Save as..." and write to the old file name with the "move project files" box checked.
There might be an option somewhere in the preferences menu to automatically move project files on save, but I haven't looked

Cheers - that's the ticket, mate.

My settings automatically copy files wherever I save it.

Re: Migrating tracks to a new project directory
Every save? Mine only does it on new projects and "save as...", so I sometimes have the issue JD describes where adding tracks to a project from another source (e.g. downloaded from a collaborator) doesn't put them in the same directory

Re: Migrating tracks to a new project directory
Say you have an existing project
You have a guest lead part or whatever.
You download the guest's wav file, and it lands in you Downloads folder
You open Reaper and load the project
You drag the file from Downloads to Reaper
You click save
Does the file automatically move from Downloads to the project folder?

Yes. I just tested it. I opened an existing project, drug in a random file off my desktop, clicked save. Closed Reaper, reopened that project, and the file I just dragged in was there.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:57 pm Say you have an existing project

Re: Migrating tracks to a new project directory
Cool. Mine doesn't do that, so it must be a setting somewhere
Re: Migrating tracks to a new project directory
Yeah everything in Reaper is "a setting somewhere" and there's always a dozen ways to do the same thing. I'm sure I've just got some box checked in my preferences somewhere that makes auto-saving a default.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 10:42 am Cool. I've got this all sorted now. I have some serious cleaning out and clearing up to do.
Multiple versions of projects saved in different locations. I need to get my best versions all saved together really.
