Here's my June Project in a much tidier state.
Bubba exhumed the vocal, Frankenstein-ed a comp and treated it.
He then did a little rumbling about in the project's basement laboratory to give me a few jolts and a little zap.
I think I can now throw my arms up and scream, "It's alive, alive!"
happy to accommodate and try any suggestions before proceeding... no guarantees that the attempts will stick obviously.
A mini bio of Aldos Huxley with some emphasis on his final hours: I waited a few days and then sent the thing of for mastering. Here're the results.
The difference in playback tempo:
Here's a slightly earlier mix played back at the native 115bpm of the drum track Here's the same mix but played back at 125bpm
V1
Just a spoon full of honey makes the acid less sour (yes, if LSD needs a sweetener then it isn't acid - it's something nasty)
He’d lose the ego the light in his soul would devour
He felt the beginning as karma took power. (he was into mysticism and Hinduism but more specifically - Ahimsa but it didn't sound right)
C1
The Eclipsed Celebrity Death Club Czar (he died on the same day as JFK and CS Lewis: Johnny was the headline the other just a deadline)
Wondered if he’d left the doors ajar (his BIG book is The Doors to Perception - yep the doors took it from there)
Wrote “…one hundred micrograms intra muscular” (on his death bed he requested, and recieved, this twice)
V2
Swami complained he’d broken the doors of perception (his guru was upset by his writing)
He looked outward focusing on introspection (this read well)
Alice’s script was another Disney deception (Walt hired him to write the Alice IWLand script and then buried it)
C2
The Eclipsed Celebrity Death Club Czar
Hadn’t noted the date on his calendar
Wrote “…one hundred micrograms intra muscular”
Solo
V3
He insisted the point was counter point (Point/Counter Point - his other big seller)
And he ignored young Bess’s offer to anoint (Both his siblings were knighted but he didn't even reply to the offer when it came)
He knew from the first this brave new world would disappoint (the BIG Book, thrice filmed - a future that we wouldn't want)
C1 rpt
The Eclipsed Celebrity Death Club Czar (a journalist noted that Lewis & Huxley were the members of the eclipsed celebrity club.)

Re: Instea of Fireworks.
Cool song. I like the feel.
Instruments are pretty well balanced. Vocal might be just a bit soft (but not by much).
Bass sound great.
The guitars have quite a lot of gain dialed in. The tone is pretty nice. But I wonder if a little less gain might give you some more defined chords. There isn't much umph when you strum. Like the first big strum of the song - it doesn't hit the listener.
Maybe raise the snare just a bit. Toms/tom rolls sound nice.

TripleM ,
Thanks.
As there's not much strumming I went for what worked for the mini power chord arpeggios on the left guitar.
Snare has been lifted a little.
The result is in the video section.
Thanks.

Re: Instea of Fireworks.
So this is Bubba's vocal chain on your vocal then? What is the chain?
Re: Instea of Fireworks.
The essence of Bubba's vocal set up on this project is simplicity: on the main vocal, from top to bottom, was ReaEQ with a high pass, a big boost in my vocal's weakest area and a high shelf followed by 2 instances of the Focusrite RED comp and touched up with the ReaDelay vocal fattener. The backing vocals/chorus vocals were similar but only one instance of the red. On the vocal bus/folder it was EQ a higher high pass and the red with a higher ratio. The vocals were sent to a single instance of the Ambience Reverb with it's fader level set at -12.9 andsending the wet signal to the master fader. I'm sure the details inside each plug vary with the project and the need for 2xRed was due to the extreme variations in the level of my vocal - it being a comped track, my voice etc. The chain worked really well.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 11:47 am So this is @Bubba's vocal chain on your vocal then? Re: Instea of Fireworks.
A/B ing it with the last mix from the other thread. This is definitely much clearer. More energy to it too.

Re: Instead of Fireworks (Huxley's Exit).
The 3rd mix sounds a bit fuller/louder.
My only nit is that the guitars sound mushy. Just a bit too much gain for me. I'm just repeating what I said in my previous comment.

Thanks MMM,
I did consider the guitars but wasn't prepared to retrack as I was obsessing about the vocals.
