I quite like semi hidden lyrics - always have. Some things need to be worked for. That said - if the effort is put in & they're rubbish it's a band etc I'll not venture towards again.
I started doing a course several years back, because work was boring, in songwriting but they put SOOOO much weight on placing the syllables on this beat and that stress etc that I tossed it in. Every assignment submitted that received a good response was formulaic - that was Berkeley College in the US. I don't know how they'd have coped with Jonathon Richman's Beserkly releases.
Cheers

Got me thinking, this is a good example of the Manic's chopping words up across syllables.

its also a brilliant song.

Anhedonia sounds like a mountain in Wales...

But seriously, try ducking the rhythm guitars a bit when the singing's on...

Honestly, the instrumental mix on this is really good. The arrangement is good, the song is good but the vocal lacks a driving presence in the mix. You may not like it but I think a bit of a boost on the vocal at around 2-4 kHz would improve it. Not enough to make it harsh but to make it bite and be more intelligible. Another dB on the vocal level would help. Go to similar mixes of the bands you like and listen critically to how bright and "presence"-y the vocals are compared to yours.

I remember mixing the vocal for our cover of "Gigantic" and I thought I had it about right. I went back to the original which I recalled as Kim having quite a warm vocal and was shocked at how bright it was. Yet it still doesn't leave the impression of being overly bright when you listen to the song.

I've hardly heard any KISS. Definitely not heard this before... shit, its awful!

The only one I really know is the one that was on a Costa Coffee advert a few years ago.

Kind of, its a fair bit better than Starbucks over here. It actually tastes like pretty nice coffee whereas Starbucks is like sweet watery milk that someone waved a coffee bean at once. Obviously I have no idea what Costa from a petrol station in Canada tastes like.

It is actually pretty good to be honest. i mean gas station over here is largely pretty meh, but the few that have the costa bar are quite good. You pay for it though. i think it like 4 or 5 bucks for a large size.

Starbucks kind of pisses me off. they AREN'T good at what they do. They are the Apple of coffee. They market shit to idiots. We have a cracking good coffee place in Canada called Second Cup and man it is just unbeatable in my opinion and the one in our town just closed and a fkn starbucks just opened in it's place. We have just as many Starbucks here now as we do Tim Hortons. And i am sort of a bad Canadian in that i couldn't give a rats ass about Hortons either.

Anyways I'll end my rant here. Sorry to hijack your thread JD.

Don't worry about it. Unless someone comes up with something major this one is about done anyway.

If the suggestion bubba made makes a massive improvement I'll repost it.

The vocalist in my glam band is making me listen to the KISS discography in order (and record a podcast about it), and that album is definitely their peak.
