Thumb Face

Post by stratmonkee »

A basic blues shuffle type thing, pretty silly lyrics , and my attempt at a Zappa whisper/talk vocal type delivery...I call this Thumb Face...

Well, that is an unsettling thumbnail!

Vocals are cutting through well, which I feel is the major challenge with this kind of vocal delivery.

Guitars could probably come up a fair amount.

I can enjoy the drum n bass focus of the track but I do want to know what's going on in guitar land.
The vocal processing works pretty well BUT the sibilant stuff is pretty powerful in places.
Cheers

Strat! That thumbnail man. It's like Jabba the Hutt.

I like the idea of the whisper vocal idea but unfortunately i lose clarity of what your saying here and there to the hi hats? I feel like there is some overlap in your sibilance and the hats and they just kind of creep along together.

Really nasty hihat brake @ 2:45. Might be two sets of midi notes on top of each other there as they just kind of leap out the song at quite the velocity! Nine time in 10 when i hear this in my own stuff that is why. I stand to be corrected, obviously.

Thanks, I was really focused on getting the vocals to cut through clearly on this , in doing so I think I was a little heavy handed with the eq on vocal tracks , boosting the mid to highs...also on the vocal delivery get a bit spitty ala daffy duck on a few lines  . Going to retrack vocal and re adress eq . Agree on guitars as well, will raise them up a bit, thanks for the feedback!

Gotcha Ray , I agree , should be a relatively easy fix, will post remix ...thanks!

HAHAHA , that thumb nail has generated lots of comments, thought it was perfect for a song called Thumb Face :lollers: Yeah that kick hat stop was accidently doubled ...will fix that , as well as vocals...thanks!!

ok did a remix of this, tried to eq out the sibilance in the lead vocal, raised the guitars a bit, took some high end off the drums /hi hat, and fixed the duplicate crash stop...I just replaced the original mix, so link at top plays new mix , as does this, thanks again for the tips/feedback :

Great song! I love this, the lyrics are very descriptive and I keep trying to envision the body that belongs to that face. . . :eep:
Really like the mix, everything is very clear, and can even make out the lyrics. Love the sound of your guitar too. Well done!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

I listened to part of the first mix, and then went to the second mix.

It sounded pretty good. Guitars and bass sound good.

Cymbals are getting in the way of the vocal just a bit. The vocal is coming through, it could just be better without they cymbals pulling attention away.
