Ohhh! So it's meant to be more like a mellotron sound then?rayc wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:06 pmThe brass is, mainly, Mel9 pedal. There's one touch of BIAB towards the end of each chorus - the bap bap bap bap thing, (which is a funk horn line apparently).vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:18 am Guitars sound tighter.
Some of the brass sounds fake. (I assume it's Bandi on brass?) It's mostly ok because of how it's sitting in the mix, but there's the occasional note that just pokes through and ends up sounding like a keyboard.

No, just all I have at hand to do the job.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 11:25 amOhhh! So it's meant to be more like a mellotron sound then?
BIAB has some REALLY good horn section stuff but little of it matches a ska band.
Layering Mel9 gives an impression of horns and I've blended a new BIAB part with that to clean up the top end.

Thanks Alison,Alison wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 11:00 pm Your vocals are so interesting! I think they distract me from whatever else is going on. Listening for a second time seems to me that there is a bit of a rhythmic clash at the beginning around .16 or so. Love what you are saying in this song. . .an appropriate rhythm for the topic!
Cool song, great topic!
Yes, one guitar is off around that spot. I'll get to it when I isolate which bit properly then shift to fit.
"interesting" is very polite of you.
I've built a video for this one as I wait for the vocalists to get started & finished.
I based it on US and Aust figures to be fair.
Cheers

Re: Ska Party
WOAH!!! My how far we have come on this one buddy. Sounds fantastic.
I don't really mind the horns as they are now. I think they are passable. I think you are nearing the finish line here ray.
Gave 809b a second listen and i think I'd like to hear a bit tighter guitar performance if you were to do another one. Like a more direct abrupt stop on the stops and mutes between strums if that makes sense to you. I don't much mind the subtle difference in the right and left sides but it would be cool to hear at least one of them with a mechanical tightness.
I really like this Ray, would be cool to hear you go at another.

Yes, my rhythm guitar playing is in need of LOTS of practice for this stuff.
Lots of ringing on as well as harmonics from poor muting all over the place.
Thanks for your kind words.
There's a new mix with slightly tidier guitar and fem vox as chorus backing.

Re: Ska Party
Listening to the latest mix, the female vox are pretty buried and indistinguishable.

Man i love that tempo change so much dude. It just makes the song so fun and alive. What was the creative factor that made you want to do that?rayc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 11:15 pmThanks Shan,WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:24 am WOAH!!! I agree with VHS. If you hadn't of told me there was some female backing vox in this i wouldn't have known. you need to beef those up and get them audible. The guitars are better for sure. I hearing some scant traces of the characteristic clicky click i like to hear in the ska rhythms.

turn up the bird and and i think you are there.

Re: Ska Party
I'll fix the levels...I was stuffing around up n down with limiter on the master & without to try and get an idea whether they'd pop out after that process and then gave up.
I'll improve upon it today thanks @WhiskeyJack & @vomitHatSteve .
