Perpetual Misdirection

Post by stratmonkee »

Been enjoying this new mel9 pedal I picked up quite a bit....used it on this for a string and choir type pad , also uses some filter effects off the Pod never used before...very fun  . Being a big early Genesis fan, love the vibe the mel 9 can add to songs.

COOL.
I've had a Mel9 for a couple of years. Takes a bit of learning to make it behave - when you're as bad a player as I.
From my research guitar to comp, (helps with the tracking), to Mel9 to Fender twin sim, (I use a Sansamp clone) and EQ'd to roll off some of the highs then to spring reverb is the chain to capture the late 60s sound. Based on Pinder's explanation of how they set up to record (mic'ing a Fender Twin Reverb amp).
I LOVE the grainy texture of the thing.
I also have a couple of sets of files - one .wav file for each tape - that I occasionally cut n paste when I can't get my hands to behave.
I dig the "squelchy" guitar effect.
Very cool piece Gene.
Cheers

Pretty good.

So what's the effect on the guitar that's modulating the volume in and out like that?

Ah, I remember commenting on this but its not here for some reason.
I had the same comment as some of the others - what's the effect on the "main riff" of the song. You've got it impressively locked in with the beat.
Its a really good mix, although I'd personally have the drums a bit louder to give it a bit more drive, that might not be a good stylistic fit and is more just how I like my music.

I'm pretty sure you know exactly how you want your music to sound.

Very cool. An impressive employment of effects to create some awesome textures man! That is so far out of my wheelhouse i applaud just about anyone who can pull it off. And as JD already noted it it is perfectly seamless with the rhythm and flow of the jam. Well done!

I have no nits at this time on the mix. It was just a really fun listen.

Thanks for the comments guys, was out of town and just got back so late replying.
Rayc - Thanks bud! Still getting the hang of that mel9! Its really touchy , the comp in front definitely helps control dynamics on it

Lt.Bob - haha yup , lowly old Pod GO...I like it, its really kinda simple for me to use and Im not spending too much time tweaking to get what I want out of it. Thanks for the listen.

vomithead steve Triple M , JD01 Whiskey Jack Thanks guys! The Pod calls the effect a Asheville pattern filter...its based on the Moog Moogerfooger MF-105M MuRf Filter. A lot of fun to mess around with many preset patterns that can easily lock into the tempo of your song.

Alison - Thanks Alison, I love just messing around with stuff and seeing what I can stumble on :>)
