Give Me Space
Re: Give Me Space
Another mix up! Thanks @vomitHatSteve and @TripleM for your input. I turned up the drums and did a little eq edit on my vocals.
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!
Re: Give Me Space
I listened to the 3rd mix. There is a little less harshness, but just a little. I don't think you've damaged the clarity tho. So I'd say it's a small improvement.

Re: Give Me Space
Huh... I just noticed the drums are panned pretty hard. (Especially the kick). Why did you opt to not put them closer to the center?
Re: Give Me Space
Sadly, I don't have another mic to try and, it seems odd, but, I usually get a good sound on my vocals with this one. Hmm. . . I'll do a tad more with eq and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

Re: Give Me Space
Ooops, I guess I broke the rules. Actually, the kick and snare are just barely off-center. I think I was trying to get a bigger sound that way instead of increasing the volume too much. . .what I don't know fills volumes. I'll check it out, thanks!vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 4:08 pm Huh... I just noticed the drums are panned pretty hard. (Especially the kick). Listening to Mix 3 now, Alison.
Your voice sounds good on this - I didn't think there was a problem with it before, but whatever you've done hasn't done it any harm!
The slight swing you've added the kick helps things feel locked in.
You could probably go even louder with the drums but I know you want this to sound laid back.

Re: Give Me Space
Alison, coming back in on Mix three and is a pretty decent step forward for sure. I don't think bringing the drums up is essential. Vocals sound great. The whole vibe has changed for the best and the rhythm is definitely more locked in. So all your work was worth it there.
My only nit i would have at this point would be to dial that kick and snare back into the center, or much more than you have now. Your methodology is similar to mine RE: snare, sort of. Every mix my kick stays a 0% panning and my snare always get's bumped 1% to the right. I am sure it does very little in the Grande scheme of things but my ears hear a better fuller snare with that 1% bump. I believe Armi does this as well i came to find out. May all just be superstition but i just can't do a snare straight up the middle. I've tried pushing my snare past the 3% mark to the right but by that point there it starts to sound a tad unnatural. So i always start at 1% and typically just leave it there. Sometimes I'll try 2% but once i EQ it it is fine to move back to 1.
Everyone else mileage may vary

Re: Give Me Space
Thanks! I really didn't have them off-center by much but, I can hear a difference when I bring the kick back to center. It definitely sounds better with the bass. I was just trying something different. . .WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:27 pm Alison, coming back in on Mix three and is a pretty decent step forward for sure.
