Men Of Harlech - Pink Floyd Edition
Men Of Harlech - Pink Floyd Edition
OK, Monday's episode of the podcast we have the most successful female UK surfer ever on. Countless Welsh, British and European titles from '75 - '95.
She's a massive Pink Floyd fan and she's getting her own custom theme. So, its the standard "Men Of Harlech" Welsh Hymn done in the style of Pink Floyd. Episode gets released on Monday and I'll be finalising the mix on Sunday morning. So if you could give me some feedback, that would be great.

The bass tone is probably a little crisp and rattley for floyd. Gotta get away from your Bad Religion tendencies for this one!

LOL!!
Well done JD. I think you hit it right on the head.
There was a bit of string clatter noise at the start that could probably use some editing. I wasn't a big PF fan at all so i can speak too much for certain on their vibe and feel but i want to say there maybe their drums had a bit more space around them? Maybe? Also that synth could maybe come up a wee bit to fille in some more space. I think i agree with VHS, tame the high end of your bass and that may address the synth thing at the same time? Maybe?
Other wise this one here is done and dusted i think. Pretty awesome man.

Nice @JD01...you definitely have captured the spirit here.
I agree with VHS about the bass, and I also would add some reverb or delay to the solo guitar in the beginning to make it more dreamy.
But you nailed the phase shifting sound on the electric rhythm guitars and the overall arrangement of sounds.

Cool! Definitely got a "wish You Were Here" era Floyd vibe... I agree maybe the synth pad sound could come up in the mix a bit and guitars/bass down a little....a bit more reverb to give it a more spacey feel might be worth experimenting with...
I dig it!

as a big Pink Floyd fan I don't find that bass sound out of character at all .... nice job on everything else.
Re: Men Of Harlech - Pink Floyd Edition
Cheers guys, Bubba also texted me about taking some top end off the rhythms.
Gotta admit, I arranged this from memory. I didn't put any Floyd mixes on to check.
I'll check the comments and finalise this tomorrow. From memory Floyd drums tend to be pretty dry.

I definitely had a Floyd vibe going.
I thought the bass fit fine. Maybe just a slight bit strong in the low end. But that's it.
Sounded good.

Re: Men Of Harlech - Pink Floyd Edition
Song sounds great.
There is a very noticeable quality difference from your spoken bits and the song to the rest of the spoken bits. At first i raised an eyebrow at how dusted and professional it sounded and then the other two guys started in and sounds like they are using ear buds for microphones. Is there a reason for that?
EDIT: I think it is just the room noise that cheapens the quality now that i listen to a bit more of the spoken bits. I can hear that the voice capture is decent, just a lot of room bleed.

Re: Men Of Harlech - Pink Floyd Edition
Yeah. Thats just catching a group with a pair of mics. They're generally about a metre off the mics.

Here's a little excerpt that's typical of the Podcast content if you want something to amuse you for 2 mins.
