man ..... this is freakin' right down the alley of what i like ..... really nice ..... that snare gets a little too enthusiastic in a few places ..... mechanical sounding occasionally and that's if I want to pick nits.

i really like it

Thanks Bob!

Yeah the snare is meant to drive like that but because its a single sample and Im lazy it is repetitive. I shoulve tried to alter it a little, in fact I might go back and tweak it now you mention it

that's really the only thing I'd do to this, but it is the thing that jumped out at me.

regardless it's going into my "music to listen to as I mow my lawn" MP3 player

My only nit is that, in my headphones, the snare is slightly left of centre: for May Day that's probably fine but it does my head in a bit.
I love the vocoder and everything about the track.

Is it...its panned centre...weird its off. Theres two samples playing I wonder if Ive nudged one. I can never tell as my right ear is lower in volume than my left, no jokes. Mustve lost a cotton bud in there lol!

This is nice.

You could use a more chill snare sample if you wanted to track to be more relaxed. (less crack, more tail kind of thing), but it's not a huge deal.

Vocoder seems well balanced

The synths coming back in at 3:14 might be a touch loud. It's very abrupt.

Thanks Steve...Im definitely going to humanize that snare more when I get time.Ill have a listen to the OB6 coming in at 3.14 too...its the same level throughout so maybe sticks out too much when the tracks sparse

I am hearing it as left of centre a bit too bud. :sherlock:

Pretty clean track though! good listen. I am at a loss though so forgive my ignorance but where are the guits? Are they driving the vocoder or something?

I believe the mention of guitars was meant to be ironic

Seriously its my ears, thats what Im blaming on the lefty snare lol. Man Im old, I have to pop an ear bud out a bit of my left ear to balance the sound when I listen to music on my iphone!

Theres a guitar through a jazz chorus amp during the vocoder part...its buried a bit, the when the sync lead synth comes in theres a bit of dodgy rhythm guitar.

Problem with guitars is Im super confident until I press record then I have two left hands, my timings awful. Bought a super nice gretsch and a charvel as well to try and force myself into practising.

That gretsch is pretty friggin badass actually holy. Do you typically leave the pricetags on for extra mojo in place of talc?

Nah, you're overly critical of yourself as all of us are.
I really like your stuff and your performances are alway good at the very least ...... it's really difficult to not simply pick your own playing apart. After all, you have the tapes and can listen to that one slight deviation over and over until, to you, it sounds like the biggest flaw in the history of timing flaws.
We all do it ..... myself included.

That's actually part of why for the last decade or so I've gotten so casual about taking the very first take that's ok.
Doesn't matter how many times I do it, I won't like any of them if I think about it much.

So now I try hard to listen to my own stuff with the same openness to whatever I hear that I have when listen to others' stuff.
It's hard to do of course ...... one thing for me is time.
Once enough time has passed that I've kinda forgotten what I meant to play, I hear it a lot more from an outside looking in position and usually appreciate stuff I didn't recognize 6 months ago.

Sounds great! I'm not sure whether I find all the sounds a a bit crispy at the the beginning of the track, but I kind of get used to it as the track progresses. The pad chords might be a bit strident?

Hadnt tried them properly so didnt take anything off in case they had to get sent back. The gretsch is lovely...but the charvel rocks, really nice to play.

Youre too kind Bob....keyboards can be quantised, or sequencers can be as tight as you like. But guitar playing for me is like hearing your own voice on tape. Ive got a lot more respect for guitarists than keyboard players.

Strident? I like it, good adjective for it...its an oberheim they can be a bit fizzy.

Its been years since anyone commented on a track, its great hearing you guys opinions on it :coolstorybro:

I love Oberheim sounds. the Stranglers "Raven" album has stunning Oberheim work from Dave Greenfield, who died this day a year ago from the bastard Covid.
