Re-listening on mix 3.

The lead on the left sticks out from the mix a little. It could come closer to the center.

Also that left guitar smacks of a band called Sloan. the style and tone really reminded me of one of their songs called Coax Me. OK I just listened to it. Maybe it doesn't smack of that song, but it definitely caught my attention enough to draw the parallel.

I agree with this. Not the Sloan part, I don't know them, but the bass being better and the vocals still needing work.

excellent stuff, I like the vibe...musically its like the Foos smashed into early REM with a punk lurking in there...dont take that as an insult lol, I love jangly guitars. On the mix, the guitar lead could be a little higher at the first part ...it sounds fine at the 2.30 part and the vox could be glued into the mix a little more

Oh man, I haven't been here for a while but, I have to say, JD, that I really like this mix (am I being redundant?) Someday I'll have the confidence to critique (or maybe the expertise) but, I am a fan and I really like this!

I like this song a lot, JD. This is a little different direction for you, and I like it.

As far as nits, I'd turn down the L/R electric guitars a little bit. And the snare too. They're kinda riding on top throughout the song. The solo at 1:36 is pretty buried among everything. It's kind of a mid-scooped sound, and it's losing the fight with the other guitars right there. Nice solo later in the song. And another nice short solo towards the end there, that tone really stands loud and proud.

There's a few songs where they were sung on the same time as I was working on how they were gonna be sung which I think I need to redo now that I'm more familiar with them.

Re: the recent change of direction... its just the evolution of my punk stuff combined with trying to write my own version of Pink Steam by Sonic Youth.

I've added a mix 4 in the OP. Only minor changes. I think I know what the worst problem with the vocal was. My normal cut at 4-500hz (boxy cut) was very narrow for some reason. I normally make this a wide cut. When I listened to the vocal in isolation it sounded pretty obvious to me.
