Valentines Song

Post by musicturtle »

So one of my wife's nicknames for me is Tunnel Vision Tony because I sometimes get so involved in work, a musical project, or a sporting event that I really forget other people actually exist. I am working on it but I still have my moments.

This is a tongue-in-cheek song I came up with over the last couple of days for a funny Valentine. Sometimes you gotta make fun of yourself and get a little creative.

The drums are canned and the bass is a synth sound. If you happen to listen please let me know if there is anything glaring.

Thanks

This is good! Were you looking for any feedback mix related or composition related?

Thanks!

More mix related feedback for this project as I will probably not re-track much being that Valentines is this weekend.

But you have a critique or suggestion for composition I am always open. That's how we learn and why I come here.

Can’t give anything on the mix, but I would have liked to hear more of a buildup in the middle of the song by maybe adding piano and some held out harmonies. That way there is a change in the dynamics and energy throughout the song.

But it’s great regardless.

I can hear that working, some build up harmony vocals in that little bridge type section would probably set it apart more from the rest of the song.

If we are back in school tomorrow maybe I will try it, I wanted to do the recording on the down low so she hadn't heard me layin' down the tracks.

A little manual de-essing, something to lift the vocal a little and something panned a little more to widen the mix...that voice from the left really seems some distance from the stereo image.
COOL song, funnt and well done.

I completely relate to having "tunnel vision"! When I work on music, my husband realizes that nothing short of a bomb going off will take me out of my trance!
Very fun song! I love what you've done with your vocals, gives it such a great vibe.
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

The electric guitar is a little low in relation to everything else. If you turn it up, though, you may have to carve out some of its muddier frequencies or those that may compete with the other parts (esp. vocals). But everything else sounds good.
awesome youtube comment of the day
Bill and Ted time traveled and brought a bass player from 1973, a drummer from 1984 and a guitar player from 1995. Now they're spreading peace all over the world 🌎

@rayc Thanks Ray, I space it out some more and see how it sounds.

@Alison Thanks! Yeah, musicians seem to be able to focus.

@SweetDan Thanks for the input! I will adjust the guitar some with some fresh ears.

nice ... like that descending harmony ... vocals are very good ... background vocals might come down a tiny, TINY bit.

Nice tunage

Thanks Tad! I am no John Lennon but I thought of him when coming up with sarcastic love song. He was the best at that.

Tony, I don't think the electric guitar sounds very nice.
Its really dark and muffled sounding and there's probably a bit too much gain on it.
I'm listening to the 0213 mix - is that the right one?

Aside from that I think its really good, your vocals are good as always, and the whole groove is good.

Listening to the other mix now.
One other thing I've noticed about both of them is that the timing between the groove and the guitar wonky in the intro. All the parts aren't quite locked in.

@JD01 thanks for listening and the input.

I tried several different guitar sounds and this is the one I settled on, I like it a bit dark. Also this is recorded with my cheapo Epiphone at school, and it seems to have a darker, muddier sound. I think it is the pick ups. Either way I am not really unhappy with the overall sound of the guitar.

I hear what you are saying about the groove in the beginning, it is kind of loose. That part could use some re-tracking.

On the first mix, I was noticing it being very vocal forward, especially on those initial "do"s.

Second mix with the decreased BGVox seems to be better balanced. The "oohs" could probably be boosted up just a touch tho.

Clarity note: you might want to label which version is which in the OP. The filenames don't make clear which is which.
