Well, that's a very funny bit. But I still say if you watch any of his episodes, you'll totally enjoy it. I always felt he explained things a bit better. And some of my favorite shows had him saying things like "fire into the canvas!!!" while the easel was shaking. I believe I heard him utter "happy little" regarding mountains and trees first, if I'm not mistaken. I do like Bob Ross and I used to watch him after I got out of school. But Bill Alexander was beyond entertaining. Just my opinion, of course.

yep ...... I can do virtually anything routing-wise.
Everything I have is hardware so this is useful for me.

Also , since it'll record 24 tracks at once, I may set up for live field recordings of bands.
Could maybe make some money with that.
I pretty much have enough mics for that although I only own about 4 stands so I'd have to get more of those.

If you wanna track church bands, you should be golden. One stand for the acoustic guitar player (the guitar is DI'd). Two for the piano. One for the drums - as far away as possible so it's not too loud.
Then the rest are handhelds!

Well, based on your recent recordings you could do with a nice amp, a steel strung acoustic, maybe a mic or two.

Well, @JD01 on these digital speakers they'll only put out 1000 watts for a milli-second right before they burst into flames!
Figure around half of whatever the rating is. 500 watts is still a lot of watts.

But yeah, I need that much .... one of my other PA speakers is rated 1300 watts and most of the newer stuff by QSC and others is 2000 watts.

So I use 2 speakers, both rated at 1000 watts ..... mostly outside and I have my drum tracks and bass tracks plus my vocals, guitar and sax going thru them.
You need that much to have enough headroom ...... I don't like my PA sound to break up at all and I need my bass to sound punchy and full and to get out to the back.
It's not actually about volume because I don't play that loud.
But bass and drums can eat up all that power quite easily and have you clipping at surprisingly low levels.

For a live use I would never consider buying a powered PA speaker with less than a 1000 watt rating.

These things rated at like 350-500 watts end up sounding wimpy ..... it's hard to get good bass out of those small cabs in the first place ..... without a lot of power it's impossible.

My recent thinking has gone along the lines of "Microphones are to recordists as paintbrushes are to artists." I think I've bought more mics this year (3) than in the previous 6-7.

Not a purchase, but....

At our work lunch we did the Secret Santa gift thing, but you had to buy for a specific person, rather than a general random gift... I've told people over the years never to buy me musical gifts, but I didn't foresee it coming from this direction:

I got one of those stupid harness things that hold a harmonica that acoustic guitarists wear around their necks. And a C key harmonica.

Naturally it was insisted that I put it on at the table, so I did and to everyone's surprise, ripped out the harmonica bit from Piano Man, which I'm pretty sure any muso of any instrument who thought about it for 2 seconds could play on a keyed harmonica first time... But they didn't know that, and they're not musicians so that impressed the hell out of them.

Already looking for regifting/give away opportunities - I don't want the damn thing. It's the thought that counts, as they say...

Rather than start a thread about it, I figured I'd post here. I upgraded my audio interface for the first time in about 7 years. I really went overboard and spent a used-car-amount on a few pieces of gear:

- RME FireFace UFX+
- RME 12Mic network preamp
- RME ARC USB
- The SFP module and a freakishly long 50m fiberoptic cable to connect the interface and the pre

This was my silly over-the-top solution to what we were discussing a couple of months ago, with regards to recording in remote areas of the home. I could have solved this problem at about 1/10th the cost. But this caught my eye and I couldn't let it go, after a month or two of stewing over it. I just had to take the tech nerd approach, I guess. I have no good excuse, other than I wanted it and I was in a spot where I could afford it.

Behold, the most ridiculous setup for a guy in his basement making music nobody will ever hear:
