Re: Enough Rope
Alright. Going as harsh and nitpicky as possible.
That closed hat on the left could come way up. when it starts, there is very little holding the rhythm together except that snare. It makes the other instruments sound like their timing might be out of sync too.
I might also move the drums closer to center overall. They're very hard-panned.
The right guitar sounds like it might be a little out of tune, especially around the bridge.
I think there are some mouth noises before the vox first come in.

Re: Enough Rope
The drums will always be a problem for me as I use the inbuilt Cubase SE program and I'm not talented enough to edit it properly, but I will look at it again.
I was close to the mic and using a pop shield but I will look at that too, and I will look into the guitar as I had to use a capo on one track..
Good feedback though, thanks

Re: Enough Rope
I agree the drums are a weak point. The hat is very low. The snare sound is real slappy.
The guitar sounds aren't bad. A bit heavy on the reverb for me. But the tone is pretty nice.
The vocal reverb is a little strange sounding. The vocal sounds like it's in a completely different space than the rest of the instruments.
The low end is lacking a bit. I might compress the kick a little (more) and raise the level. I don't know if you can get away with a low end boost in the bass or not. But it's a little light sounding.
The song started a little abruptly, almost like the band was playing before anyone hit record.

Re: Enough Rope
Yeah, I agree with MMM. The vocal sounds totally out of the space that the rest of the band is in. Seems like you have loads of reverb on it... and different reverb to the rest of the mix.
That's the main think you've gotta deal with now, 'cos its really dominating the mix. If you get that sorted then the rest of the mix should be easier to sort out.

Re: Enough Rope
Yeah I agree with the others that the drums are too far back.
Guitar on the left and the vocals are also big culprits to me.
Left guitar is too loud and the vocals are muddy from the reverb.

Re: Enough Rope
Thanks again guys for the warm feedback
Re: Enough Rope
06 08 20 mix
The bass is oddly modern, (toppy & a bit like it's thumb slapped), for the overall sound.
improved significantly - well done.

Re: Enough Rope
I am chiming in on the 4-8-20 mix.
A lot going on here. I don't love the stereo spread of the hi hat and crashes. i would draw them in closer to center and maybe try to glue them together with some reverb. What are the stock drums called in cubase called Clogiron Brian ? If we knew it's actual name it might be possible we could track down some info for you on how to go about adjusting some of that within cubase for you? there has got to be a way to do it.

Re: Enough Rope
The drum editer is 'Groove Agent SE' I have since found a way to bring different levels up or down for each item (ie hihat , snare) I will look at the centralisation issue, in my head (I'm not a drummer) I kinda assumed different parts of the kit setup would be panned according to their position on a kit. this is my next task (learning experience) thanks to all for great positive feedback!

Re: Enough Rope
I've just had a bit of back and forth about this with Brian on Facebook. I'm surprised that no-one has brought up the fact that there is no bass drum at all in the verse (shuffle) part of the song. Is it just me?

Re: Enough Rope
That's pretty common, yes. Tho I have seen some debate on if it should be panned from the drummer's perspective or the audience's.Clogiron Brian wrote: βSun Aug 09, 2020 6:56 am in my head (I'm not a drummer) I kinda assumed different parts of the kit setup would be panned according to their position on a kit.

Re: Enough Rope
new drum pattern added, I need to bring it in on a fade methinks, but tell me if this sounds better please Bob?
Re: Enough Rope
Brian, I started to listen to the latest BUT it struck me as very loud as did the last track I listened to by someone else...suggests my ears or scone are a bit sensitive tonight. I'll listen again in the morning.
Cheers
