A Million Wishes

Post by Alison »

I was going to post this sooner but, I saw the post about your fellow rebel and thought I'd leave a little space . . . I'm so sorry for the loss, I know you all are a tight-knit group, I am honored to be part of it. . .
Anyway, I've been working on this song for quite a while, used more tracks than I've EVER used. .I like where it is going but, there are a few glitches (mostly with my playing, I think). Thought I'd share it with you, I appreciate your ears!

Also, the only way I know how to share is via either Soundcloud or Google drive, if anyone can offer another way, I'd appreciate it!

The cello as bass is cool but some notes do have that "rubber band" thing at the end.
Vocals could be louder: picking the lyric is a little difficult in some spots. It's a call to action rather than a lullaby so the message needs to be clear.
Love the song, cool melody, uncluttered arrangement.
My New One - Sorry now has lyrics/vocal sorted and is about Australia being lead forward, in 1972, to a fairer, better society...
Cheers

that nice!

I sometimes play in a pirate band and for the percussion they use an Irish drum called a bodhran .... this reminds me of that sort of rythym.

I can tell it's not finished but I too like where this is going .... can't wait to hear more.

Very good song! I think that things are dark overall (as in not a lot of high frequencies). The one thing that isn't dark is the brushed toms, so they kind of stick out. I think that the first thing I'd try would be to brighten the lead vocal at least a little bit (not much, just a little). That'll help them stand out as the focus of the arrangement, and it'll help the brushed drums not be the sole thing that pokes out at those frequencies.

You've come a long ways in the last couple of tunes that you've posted, the progress is noticeable and commendable. Keep up the good work!

First thing that springs to mind is that the right guitar is very quiet... then when the left guitar comes in the right guitar really slips away.
Both the guitars sound nice though, I think you should bring the left one down a bit and the right one up a bit to balance things out.

At about 35s, the guitars, the beat and the vocal go out of time with eachother, I think this needs tightening up actually.
Those brush toms are pretty close - touch of reverb needed maybe?
Is the Cello solo just after 2 mins panned hard left? Bring that more central.

I agree with Tad, brighten up the vocal a little.

Good song though, you'll have this one sounding sorted before long.

Cello bass sounds good. It sits well with the percussion. Rest of the strings are lovely.

I hear what JD says about the guitars. If you bring up the right one a little and left one down a touch, I think it'll balance well.

The vocals are darker than the rest of the instrumentation. How are you micing yourself for that part?

vomitHatSteve sorry for such a delayed response. . . I've had a bunch of other projects going that I've needed to finish. . .sigh, never enough time!As far as micing goes, I'm using the Presonus M7 but, I think I may have put too much compression on my vocals (I tend to "belt it out" a bit much so, compression helps) I'll revisit the compression!
JD01 yeah, thought I heard something there too! The guitars were difficult to get right probably because my playing is a bit lacking. I think I re recorded them about 3 times before I felt they were "okay"!
Tadpui thank you, I'm going to check the compression and eq on my vocals to see if I can brighten them a bit.
Thanks for all the suggestions! Now, back to work! :)

Hi Alison - you probably need to render it as an MP3 and attach it. 103MB wav is a pretty hefty file....
