Song For Students EDIT Vocals Added

Post by musicturtle »

Edit to the post I have added the version with voices.

I think it could have turned out a lot worse.

For the verses I paired two to four singers who sang the parts well.

Chorus parts I put them all together. No autotuning, but I did cut a few parts here and there that were out of key or out of time.

I wrote the song several years back to say goodbye to my 5th grade students, called "Watch Me Fly"

This year I had select students submit a video of them singing along with the song with ear buds in so all you can hear is them.

Do you feel pressure to get The Wrecking Crew or the Nashville equiv. after that $5k rig thing? The recording is tidy and sounds nice. No probs to my ears. i look forward to hearing it. I've done a similar thing but vocal only a few times but had to do it at school using my R16. It's fun for the kids and a hellish to edit but the results are always a blast.
Cheers

Haha. Yeah need some real players in here!

And it will be a bit of an editing task. I am seperating the audio and mixing in Cubase then putting the video together.

I am excited though...first couple submissions have already got me a little choked up.

Sounds pretty good so far. Bass is a little boomy. Guitars sound pretty good.

The Wrecking Crew here is 10,000 independent, professional-grade musicians who are super-excited if they can get union rates for a gig (but usually don't).

The recording sounds good. Overall, it'll really depend on the quality you get from the students. A phone recording in a bad room will contrast pretty badly with that mix, but the kids with industry parents will probably sit quite nicely with the right vocal treatment.

Vocals work pretty well. Not gonna be able to get the full children's choir sound with everyone being isolated like that, but they blend well together.

Thanks rayc

vomitHatSteve Yeah I only had 14 kids respond...so it was never gonna be a huge sound.

SHOOT!! I missed this entirely musicturtle

I think for how it had to unfold and come to life it could have been worse. This turned out great man! What did the kids think of it when they heard the final product?

Thanks WJ!

They and their parents were really pleased. I also did a video of it too with the footage the students sent me.

It was a fun project, putting the fourteen videos together did test my computer's meddle though. :)

I really like this, musicturtle. It's a lovely thing for them to have and to keep. You too. The guitars are well recorded and sound nice. There might be a bit of a buildup of frequencies around the 3k mark in the singing because of the way some of the voices may have been recorded. I might experiment trying to pull some of that out and by bumping the 10k a little to get a bit of sparkle like the guitars have.

Well done.

Thanks Bubba, I will give that idea a listen and see how it sounds. The project is in the can though, and the recordings were all over the place as far as quality. The one kid was singing on a closed in porch, sounded like a reverb chamber. Another one was in a park and there were birds chirping and cars going by. But again, it was fun and the kids really got a kick out of it.
