The best song from the upcoming album
Also one of the truest songs I have ever written

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Your chorus at the end gets kind of buried under all the weirdness. The vocals aren't real clear there. But other than that, pretty good!

Oh sorry, I wasn't looking for feedback on this one. Just bragging about how correct my Scorcese opinions are.
Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Enjoyed it. Toxic Scorcese - I've no love for his movies & the overblown performance he encourages.

Really good Steve. Like the lyrics.. I generally like Scorcese but I can see what you're getting at... Next time I watch a Scorcese film I'll definitely think about it in this context.

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Thanks!
Honestly, I don't hate scorcese. Gangs of New York and the Departed were really enjoyable films. I was just really annoyed at the heaps of praise the Irishman was getting. He'd just been interviewed saying that superhero films aren't real cinema because they're not "human beings trying to convey psychological emotional experiences" or whatever. Then he churns out this overblown, CGI heavy, by-the-numbers gangster film.
Plus, there is the aspect that these films ostensibly have a pro-social message by showing the villians getting their comeuppance, but only after 2 hours of showing how cool they are and how awesome their lifestyle is. (See especially scarface)

He's not wrong about superhero movies though. Those things are fucking crap.

Clearly you've not seen Deadpool.

Back on topic, interesting take on Scorsese vomitHatSteve I haven't seen the movie really. It is on my list of things to watch though and i'll keep all this in mind when and if i do.

They usually are. The whole MCU was pretty boring, but I'll defend the art of them.
WJ, let me know if it picks up after the first 90 minutes 'cause that's when I got bored and turned it off.

I felt that way about scarface. I'll let you know though. I'll give it the old college try.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:31 pmThey usually are. The whole MCU was pretty boring, but I'll defend the art of them.

Oh yeah, Deadpool was great. That's the exception. I'm not a comic nerd so at the time I didn't even know he is a "superhero". I thought it was just a movie spoofing on comic book movies in an awesome way.

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
The only reason i went to see it was because one of my comic book friends explained it to me as a "Super hero movie for people who hate super hero movies"
I was sold immediately and not dissapointed. Still haven't seen the second one yet tho. I'll get to it someday.

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Is there an "art" to them? They're all CGI fights, explosions, and monsters. They're clearly made for mass appeal to a childish demographic. I got no problem with any of that. I just don't know where the art of it is. I guess the computer animators and editors are the artists.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:31 pm

I watched The Irishman on the weekend because #lockdown. I'm glad I saw it but it was way too longer than it needed to be, and only average. Robert de Niro playing a typical Robert de Niro character. Al Pacino playing a typical Al Pacino character. Meh... nothing great about it at all. And I struggled with the switches in timeline, because the CGI de-ageing didn't work as well as he thinks it did.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 11:04 am Thanks!

That. In the same way that michael bay makes a great pile of sexist explosion. On some level, I respect as art any creative work that takes great skill or effort even if I don't like it, or it's banal and thoughtless.

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Are each of those “drum” sounds a sample you ripped from a song or something? How long did that take to make?
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
Re: The best song from the upcoming album
The only Super Hero flick I've thoroughly enjoyed was/is WATCHMEN.
But I don't seek films from that genre.

Re: The best song from the upcoming album
Left channel is samples of me beatboxing. Right channel is a video game. Center is mostly sampled from a really grungy recording of a drum solo from my glam band. (Except the "Four"s which are unreal tournament)CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 7:12 pm Are each of those “drum” sounds a sample you ripped from a song or something? I've been building up a sample library for about 11 years no. That's also when I started work on the randomized drum engine. A year or so ago, I spent about a day converting most of the isolated drum samples into "kits" in Reasamplomatic5000 that are compatible with EZD mapping, so I can drop the same midi files into them.
So this song in and of itself probably took less than 4 hours (including writing), but the toolset I use for it has been over a decade in the making.
