Quick Cover Of A Cover.

Post by JD01 »

OK, didn't have long and I wanted to do a quick cover... but its a cover of a cover.

Was originally by a Scottish band called the Vaselines but Nirvana covered it. I think it was one of their first recordings with Dave Grohl as their version was recorded live on a John Peel session in 1990.

Its a very, very simple song which is why it sprang to mind for a time limited cover. I even added a very simple solo!

Fun and cool JD01 !

Guitars sound great as always.

What do you use for drums again? Did you program these yourself?

It's just EZ Drummer. I programmed them based on the Nirvana version

Cheers, mate.

Got it. Just wondering.

Drums always take me forever to program. Never been much of a drummer, that's probably why

I've never been a very good drummer but I've got quite good at thinking like a drummer.

Guits and drums sound good. Vox are kind of buried and sibilant.

Sounds great, JD! I think I agree with VHS that the vocals can come up. Guits, bass, drums all sound excellent. You've become quite proficient with EZD!

Sounds good James.
Vocals up & perhaps add a little grit to them.

Shit dude. that sounds really good. Guitars are great. Love those. Drums are nestled in there quite nicely a bit but really dry. maybe thats a me thing. Not anything I'd chnage though.

Your vocals sound good but i think could use a bit more of a compress. The performance at about 0:29 to 0:35 jump out and sit really nice and where the that is where the whole performance should be sitting at IMHO. Everything else surrounding those parts of the track seem to fall back in the mix and sit under everything else. I would likely tackle that before just bringing the whole track up.

I forgot about that song. No idea Nirvana covered it. thought they wrote it.

Cheers guys, I think the main problem with the vocal is the shit singer. But I'll have a look at getting them to stick out more without making them louder and maybe try a little drive on them.

Remember my monitors died, my reference cans have also died now so I mixed this on my focusrite tracking cans.

OHHH,
they tend to be bright and lack bottom end if my pair are an indication.

Mine are much darker and muddier... But they're cheap, closed back and like ear defenders so good for tracking loud.
