Thought Crime One Step Beyond
Thought Crime One Step Beyond
Heelo Folks,
This song was in the doldrums because I couldn't get a guitar tone to match it.
Luckily Greg offered to strum a few bars to help it along.
Drums ( still being worked on) by BIAB
Guitars by Greg
Vocals and melody by Torrey Bliss
I cranked the bass.
It's not quite home yet so thoughts, comments & suggestions are very welcome and encouraged. This is a refinement based on Greg's observations regarding the kick drum and TripleM's regarding relative levels.
I wasn't able to do much about the vocals in terms of pitch... Less guitar level, a little more bottom end in the bass...
The added bottom end didn't show up. I've had to take a little scoop from the guitars lower mids to allow the bass' bass come through.
I dried the vocal a little BUT it was pretty dry (though it has printed delay on the fils so that may have been the prob).
I tried the 3k thing suggested by TripleM but it really endted the guitars. I reverse it and made a slight adjustment in thta spot to the vocals.
More de-essing and a touch more Kick Click. It’s not thought crime.
Don’t you see,
We’re out of time?
We’re out of time.
There’s nowhere to hide,
When you and me makes two.
In a private hell and overcoat,
Like wearing dead man's shoes.
Dancing away dystopia
Language becoming a gaol.
Self-fulfilling bureaucracy,
Hammers the nail
It’s not pantomime.
‘neath the chestnut tree,
We are out of time.
We are out of time.
We are dead, you & me,
And you know that it is crystalline
Rewrite our history,
Truth claims our last line.
Walking upstairs once again,
Screams behind the grate.
At today’s iteration,
For now, we will wait.
When will bells chime?
Oh, Julia spat,
We are out of time.
We are out of time.
Solo
This is not my thought crime,
Two plus two makes five.
We are out of time.
We are out of time.
OUTRO
It’s your thought crime,
Can’t you see,
We were out of time?
We are out of time.

Guitars sound good. They're a bit loud. They're dominating most everything else.
A good start on the drums. Some good fills. They're not punching through the mix. If you back the guitars down a couple dbs they might push through.
The bass seems to be sitting right.
Vocal is OK. A pitchy note here and there. Some cool harmonies.

Re: Thought Crime One Step Beyond
I think the guitars might still be a little loud.
Bass might be a bit mid-rangey for how heavy the tone the guitars are bringing. Bumping it's low end to make it feel heavier itself might help.

I think the guitars are still a little bit loud. They're covering the vocal just a little and covering the drums quite a bit.
I forgot to mention this the first time. But maybe if you dry up the vocal it might cut through a little better.

Re: Thought Crime One Step Beyond
Balance of guitars with everything else is definitely better in this one.
Maybe clean up some sibilants, and I'd call it good.

It's sounding real good.
Just something you might want to try... There is a bit of a frequency clash between the guitars and the vocal. Like in the 3K range I think. You might want to experiment cutting the guitars a bit there. The sacrifice is they probably won't sound quite as good. But the vocal would be clearer. This is kind of a minor thing at this point. The mix is really sounding good.

It's shaping up nicely.
You might have overdone that vocal boost just a bit. I'm hearing a little hiss in it every once in a while.
But other than that it's sounding pretty good to me.

Re: Thought Crime One Step Beyond
Sorry i am so late to the party but my ear phones at work at total garbage now and today is my first day in my room in weeks.
Q is a really nice improvement over the OP ray. good work as usual guys.
Second listen to Q I think the vocals are a bit glassy but not at all in a bad "go fix it" kind of way though.
