This Beatles cover sounds empty.
What am I missing? I know I’m missing harmonies, but does it make that much of a difference? Maybe so.
What else can I add to fill it up?
Also yes, I borrowed the isolated drum track and piano solo. I simply can’t do them. I’m jealous of all of you that can.
Edit: edited version below.

The bass tone is wrong - might have to wait for the flats...it sounds a bit phasey and is a little behind the guitars in parts.
Try making a mono mix - that'll let you know how much EQ overlap you need to address.

Yeah, there’s nothing I can do until the flats get here.
I made a mix with harmonies. I do think it sounds a bit better.

According to the Beatles Bible..."The rhythm track consisted of Paul McCartney’s bass, Ringo Starr’s drums, and John Lennon’s Gibson Jumbo acoustic guitar.
The three remaining tracks of the four-track tapes were filled during a 7-11pm session. Lennon, McCartney and George Harrison double-tracked their three-part vocals, with Lennon taking the lead, onto tracks two and three. The song was complete with electric guitar parts played simultaneously by Lennon and Harrison on Fender Stratocasters."

MUCH better with the harmonies.
I have similar problems with the phasey thing on my knock off.
You'll have to experiment with the switches and knobs.
It doesn't sound phasey "in the room" but records that way. Maybe it's a DI problem.

Are you sure you’re not confusing the phase thing with the isolated drums? The drum track is VERY phasey. I wish I had a real kit.

I need to get that bible. Okay, so I need another electric guitar track and an acoustic track.rayc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 5:20 pm According to the Beatles Bible..."The rhythm track consisted of Paul McCartney’s bass, Ringo Starr’s drums, and John Lennon’s Gibson Jumbo acoustic guitar.

I just looked it up online.
Nope, the phasey thing is the bass - though it may be how it interacts with the kit that makes it so...don't know. Ask someone with good ears to listen.

I tried giving it a laisten on my work earbuds but it seems the right earphone is a bit pooched Crows. So i need new ones. Everything i have listened to today is leaning hella left. I'm no help here currently.
Really good vocal performances though!! Is that all you ?

Bass and guitar just seem to lack any presence at all, Crows - like they've had all the guts stripped out of them. Very vocal heavy in the mix, but it's almost like there's no music behind them apart from the drums for the most part.

Yeah, I’ll have to retrack them for sure. I just don’t know what happened there.

Solo the guitar and bass (separately) and have a look at them in a spectrum analyser - betting you're not seeing much under 200Hz.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 3:47 pmYeah, I’ll have to retrack them for sure. I just don’t know what happened there.

Alright, see how it sounds now.

Re: This Beatles cover sounds empty.
The vocals sound great - lead and harmonies.
Is the bass doubled in the intro? It sounded weird. It went away after the intro. I think the bass is a little too loud. And flats would sound better. I think it's just what a lot of people are used to hearing on Beatles tunes.
The piano solo sounds *exactly* like the Beatles version. How did you do that?
I think the vocal and bass are dominating the guitars for much of the song.

Re: This Beatles cover sounds empty.
Okay, so the bass sounded doubled because I had another guitar play an open E.
The piano was actually borrowed from the song. That and the drums. I can’t play those two instruments lol.
Thanks for listening!

Hey Crows, just gave this a listen.
I think the vocals are a little dry for this song, could use a little more verb to lush it up some.
The backing vox are also a bit tentative. I know the Beatles are hard to emulate, but for me this song is carried by the rich texture of their harmonies. I don't think it has to be exactly like theirs, but when they come in they need more of presence.

Yeah, I’ve resigned myself here. I can’t do the harmonies. They are too hard. I thought this would be one of the easier songs to do but it’s pretty difficult.
