Bill L , using the PRE FX volume option in Reaper actually does alter the wav view - bigger for louder smaller for quieter.
It's excellent and being PREFX it's a real (though noon destructive) change that isn't dependent on the compressor etc.
Watch the vid to see.
Using the Pre FX Volume allows bigger changes with the Volume envelope and fine tune with the trim.
I usually use the PreFX Volume envelope for de-essing - that's where it's BRILLIANT - but I also use it for levelling things - the visual cues make life MUCH easier.
At 15.64mins in this video the HOW TO of pre FX Volume use is probably better explained, (but is in the context of de-essing)...

Mixing a vocal performance that goes from quiet to loud.
Re: Mixing a vocal performance that goes from quiet to loud.
Speaking of riding the fader, when I had my Yamaha AW4416, before I went PC, it had motorised faders which you could manually program to even out volumes.
Always weird watching those things move around of their own accord while the recording was playing through.

Re: Mixing a vocal performance that goes from quiet to loud.
Have I missed something, or has no-one mentioned an autogain or vocal rider plugin? Waves do a nice one which is occasionally on offer at $29 or Hornetplugins https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/h ... ogain-pro/ at €22.

CeeBee ,
I THINK most folk in here use as few expensive plugs as possible.
Waves stuff always crashes my system so I steer clear of them.
The Hornet thing seems interesting but a little confusing too.
ReaComp has a, sort of, vocal rider built in.

HoRNet AutoGain is on offer at €6, and HoRNet AutoGain Pro at €11 can't get much cheaper
