Instrumental Pickup Demo

Post by JD01 »

Old song, that I've rearranged and re-tracked all of and changed the riffs.
Now I've got the new mutt-pups in my Tele I wanted to put a song together and I'd been meaning to re-do this for a while.

Generally you're hearing Tele on the left, mainly using the both pickups.
The Crimson is on the right generally using the bridge pickup for the picked rhythm.
The lead is all on the Crimson, but using all sorts of configurations, bridge pickup, neck pickup and split neck pickup.

Hard panned Tele rhythm on the left is straight into the crunch channel.
Hard panned Crimson rhythm on the right is a Klon into the clean channel.

There's all sorts of extra effects on the rest of it, OCD, TS, Delay, more Klon, Phaser.

Its not - but I don't have any lyrical or melodic ideas for this one yet, so its way down the list for completion. I have it on my phone now so I can listen to the instrumental in the car, that always helps generate ideas.

Cheers, Ray. Listening to it a bit more in the car and on headphones I think I've realise that the snare isn't quite working right, but I can sort that.

Forgot to mention, muttley, your handiwork is all over this one, mate.

I'm hoping to have at least one room up and finished this weekend and that will include a decent set of monitors. I'll give it a good listen then.. I only have earbuds and laptop speakers right now..

No worries, mate. Was just tagging you 'cos I knew you'd be interested in having a listen eventually. This song is right at the bottom of the TBC list.
Pickups are all great though. Really clear and articulate. The tele is quite quiet in the mix, but when its strumming away in what's going to be the pre-chorus it comes through clearly and you can hear all of the strings, even though there's a bit of gain, the Crimson on the other side and two lead guitars playing!

I'm only on ear buds and i hear a few things i want to dissect on my monitors but breaking each item down on their own tonally speaking i think what you have here is pretty awesome. Those mutt pupps are killer homey.

That's amazing! I manage to have a knack for playing with a wah-wah even when I'm not using one! haha.

I'm actually a fairly rubbish wah player - what you're hearing in the descending sections after the chorus is a Small Stone phaser. I'm great at using pedals like that - I can push them once to turn them on and again to turn them off.... talent!

I find it does give a bit of a wah like effect without having to use a wah - I'm very happy with what it does for stuff like that anyway.

Yeah, I like it. I've started using a phaser quite a lot.

I thought everything sounded excellent.

I thought the bass was a real cool part. I thought it could use a little more lower midrange, like 500hz - 1000hz, to warm it up a little.

Guitars were excellent IMO.

I totally spaced on this one when you posted it JD. Just now listening. This sounds really great, man! Nice work on the drums. Bass as well. And of course the guitars sound terrific.

Really good JD. What aren't you liking about the snare sound?

Haven't listened to this for a couple of weeks.. actually, I think the snare might just be a bit loud actually.

I think I'm generally pleased with this.

Cheers, Armi. I want to finish this now. I think I'll take it to Austria with me this weekend so I can listen to it and try and work up some lyrical/melody ideas.
