In Australia a shandy is a mix of beer & lemonade popular with women at BBQs in the 60s or to start kids on their track to alcohol & sugar addictions.
The song, yours James, really is cool.

We have 'em stateside too. (I went to school next to a brewery that does mostly shandies.)

Cool Jdude, you've came a long way in a short time dude...

I have to agree with the vocal suggestions, they need some top end...They're not bad at all, they just don't have the same sheen the instruments do...Once you get the vocals a bit more polished, you might use some automation to raise/lower verses/words that need it...

Can't give much advice on the EZD thing other than to turn all the reverb/room mics off & make your own with a reverb plugin...You might ask Gerg for some of his drum tracks & try to make the "dry" EZD tracks sound like his dry tracks, that would get you to ground zero...Then add eq/compression/reverb as needed...Greg sent me a drum template a few months ago & just seeing what he did to his raw drum tracks really helped me to dial my fake drums in a bit more...

Overall this is pretty good dude, you've improved tremendously in just the last little while...Keep it up... :minernuggs:

Cheers, Miner. I've not returned to this song in a while to try and brighten up the vocals 'cos I've been distracted by interface problems and I've written a couple of new things that I'm just trying to arrange.

I've had all the EZD verb and compression turned off for ages now and, like you say, I'm just using my own reverb, compression and EQ to try and make things sound as good as I can.

Good idea - I'll ask Greg about that at some point soon.

OK, been doing a bit more mixing, I think I'm close to a final mix with this one.
Brighter vocal, less clicky kick, bit more life in the snare etc.
Lot less reverb on the guitars too.

The vocals are sitting well, I think. It might be the device that I'm playing it on, but the drums might be a touch loud for me but it sounds a solid performance and mix. :)

Cheers, what you listening on? I won't fanny about with this one any more for now. I want to get a couple of other mixes to sound as good as this one really.

I'm digging it. I don't remember which of your usual burrs were turning up on the last mix, but I'm not noticing them here.

I was going to say a misspelling of "bur", as in a spiky seed pod that catches on clothing and fur - metaphorically anything that sticks out and scratches and irritates.
But then it turns out that "burr" is the correct spelling for machining errors on metal. And considering fret burrs are a common cause of broken strings, it's probably a more apt metaphor when working in music.

That's actually an ideal metaphor.

Sounds pretty good to me JD, listening at low volume on the laptop at 6.15am - still reckon the last 8 bars with the "better in the evening" sung with better pronunciation of better is the better part of the song...
