I've managed to score an MXR Carbon Copy delay pedal off of a bloke called Scrubs off of out of Audio & Anarchy forum. (You'll remember him, Greg) He sold it to me for $80 including shipping. I paid him a few more dollars to sweeten the deal for him. They go for about £100 used over here.

I work with these things on a daily basis but I still have no idea how you would use one for your purposes.

I'm not 100% sure myself either, yet, but actual techs use them and I've already had mine pay off a little bit. For my purposes, they let me see the guitar signal as it passes through an amp. So say for example you have some hum, or a crackle, or some scratching, or some oscillation in an amp. Something just isn't right and you don't know what or where. You inject a known signal into the amp input at a voltage similar to a guitar pickup's output. I've been using a 1khz sine wave at around 200mv. You can then follow that steady, known signal through the amp using the scope's probes. You can see where the signal goes and grows as it passes through gain stages and the tone stack. You can see how the volume and tone pots shrink and grow the signal. And as the signal grows along the way, as long as it stays in the shape of that clean sine wave and stays at your chosen frequency, you're good. When the signal hits a problem it will alter the shape on the scope or get fuzzy. You'll see it. Then you'll know that something related to the part of the circuit you're probing is causing a problem. And if it all goes well, by the time you get to the speaker jack, you should have your original input signal still intact, but it will be much much larger. And as you crank it up, you can see the signal start to clip off the tops and bottoms of the sine wave, and this should be pretty close to symmetrical. That's our beloved natural distortion. I'm going to try to make simple little video showing how it works. It's helped me with setting my bias. I already suspected that the power tubes that came with my amp kit were pretty dodgy. They were terribly mismatched. On the scope I could see it. The crossover distortion and clipping in the sine wave was terrible. It didn't really sound bad, but it wasn't great for the overall health of a brand new amp build. With new tubes, things now look as they should and the scope has allowed me to push my power tubes to their hottest happy spot beyond my just turning a pot and relying on a number on a multimeter. The Fender spec is way too cold for my amp, so a little further testing let me optimize things.

So that's just one way a hack like me can use it. It's just a neat little tool to have and I'm trying to learn it. I'm 100000% dead-set against using an amp tech for anything ever again.

Those are cool simple delays though. It's funny, all these boutique pedals have completely jumped the shark, pedals fucking everywhere from everyone, and it's the basic originals that are still the best.

I'm refitting speakers in my GK as I mentioned. But I did look around at alternative small combos to drag to the bar for Saturday jamming.
I've only tried 2 so far...
Fender Mustang GT 100 - 100-watt 1x12" Combo - is "flat sounding" an actual word? (never twiddled the effects - just straight in)
Marshall DSL20C - 20 watt 1X12 combo - stopped looking after this one...it sounds surprisingly like my JCM900 but a little "smaller" as it is just a single 12". Nothing fancy, it just sounds like a Marshall. I have to admit, I am and will always be a Marshall fanboy. If I can't get my GK working I may just pick this up.

Absolutely. There's just something profoundly musical about those analogue Bucket Brigade delays. And the Carbon Copy still comes in at the top or near the top of most top ten lists, even in illustrious company.

One of the nicest ones was turning an analogue tone into a digital laser signal and sending it down a fibre-optic cable to a receiver, where it could be heard through a speaker. The analogue tone and the digital tone sounded pretty much identical, but the oscilloscope showed they were anything but. The digital one was a square wave like the one in your pic because the information was sent as a pulsed laser beam that was either on or off, nothing inbetween. Cool stuff.

Yeah, cool. That's pretty similar to what we do with our recording every day. We take an analog source, convert it to digital, muck around with it in the DAW, and then back to analog so we can hear it.

It wasn't a kidney Armi, just my LP & the EVH LBX head...Yes, I took a big loss on both, but the end result will be well worth it to me...I've already said it, but I'll say it again, this amp isn't gonna get away from me...

This is a big moment for me guys, it may be kinda silly, but this is "the" amp for me...I already know what it's capable of, & that's why I've wanted it back so much, it's a killer amp that does the tones I like, exceptionally well IMO...Greg got to play through the one I sold, & I think it impressed him, even with his stable of grail-worthy amps...

Yup, one of my bandmates bought it, and we all liked it. The only problem with it was it wasn't quite loud enough to compete against my drumming. Lol. But it did sound great.

I have the original green Analog Delay the Carbon copy is modeled on ... sounds pretty good I guess ..... been a while since I fooled with it.

If you're wondering why I quoted you on the Origin, when those amps were first announced, I thought it might be a cheaper amp to replace the Chupa...I knew I'd have to get dirt from a pedal, which I"m fine with, & the price (about 1/2 of the Chupa's price) would allow me to do just that...

But after Greg went & tried one out (which shows what a good guy he is, he did that just so to let me know if he thought I'd like it or not), that plan fizzled pretty quickly...I know for a fact Greg would never steer me (or anyone) wrong on gear, especially the Marshall-y stuff, & if he said it was terrible, that's all I needed to hear...In defense of the Origin amps, I have heard some pretty good clips of it since then, but there's just no way that amp would be able to replace the Chupa...

This is a pretty big deal for me, it's the one thing I've had my heart set on for a long time now...Just the thought of it makes me smile, I'm having a tough time waiting already & I haven't even ordered it yet...I have to wait until I get paid again to have the whole amount, but it's gonna happen...I even e-mailed Nik to check on the cheapest route, & his Guitar Amps USA will be where I buy it from, because shipping will be free...
