I don't know what version of the mix I'm listening to. I have it loud on my monitors and it sounds nicely balanced to me. Nothing's hurting my ears or booming my room to pieces.

I think all the sounds work. I'd like a little more crack in the snare. Too much "bottom" in it to me. Vocals sit well on my end. Guitars sound pretty good. Bass is there without being too boomy or too thin. Pretty well done IMO.

Nice one, Armi - listening to the latest iteration and I have to say it sounds pretty damn sweet to me. You seem to have done something about all my suggestions, unless my ears are fooling me! I especially like the intro guitar now - it sounded squelchy with the comp and boxy with the eq before, now it sounds spot on. Vocal level and eq is also bang on - plenty of sparkle and air, no words jumping out and none being lost. Great job.

Oh, when you finally render and master it for keeps, don't forget your cymbal fadeout at the end, and allow for the reverb tail.

Probably about the third, I think. I had a closer listen to the snare soloed - it was more bottomier than I normally use - snare drum samples are the bane of my existence. :headwall: I'm removed some bottom, turned it up a touch, put a little more in the overheads and EQ'd it a bit - hopefully it's crackier now but with less rattle.

I'm always surprised how bad the core snare samples sound on their own with VSTs - all the life comes via the "overheads".

This is why I only ever have one sample up and I just pretend that I overwrite it - I say "thanks for your input, I have a new version up" and then change nothing and whenever people listen again they hear the changes they've recommended that I haven't made at all... :lollers:

No, but seriously, I do take everyone's feedback on board, yours in particular, and that'll teach me to set the end point without listening via headphones and doing a master fade. It's a whole second longer now which almost makes it a jam song - I could join the Grateful Dead. I'm just assuming I've got the tails now as I didn't actually listen as that would involve getting headphones out and it's Wednesday and I'm just not up to it. :nyuk:

No, you've definitely sorted the vocals, they sound great, to me.

I can't be imagining the reduced compression, can I? :suspicious:

It's exactly the same with real drums. Often my snare top track sounds like ass on its own and its best function is for adding body. Snare top and bottom together sound better, but overheads are the sound of the kit - they're not just cymbal mics.

No idea what version I am listening to now as you've not changed the link.
The latest version sounds really good though - no criticisms from me.

Re: fadeout. You've got the tails but not the cymbal - I usually do an autofade on my overheads tracks because cymbals (especially real ones) sustain for a year and a half. :smiles:

Bugger - I'll fix it tomorrow. :drums:

I normally just run a vol envelope on the master and fade the end, but for some reason I just didn't this time. Easy fix.
