ARC 4 Studio

Vocals too high in the mix? Too low? Not even sure? Snare sounds wonky? And how do I make everything louder than everything else? Step in, step in, for your mix Viagra from people who know the secrets.

Huh. So I was in a meeting when I checked this thread yesterday and couldn't actually listen.

The ARC mix of the first song is way wider than the original. Is it just applying EQ, or is it doing some other treatment?

The ARC system doesn't apply anything to the actual mix. It just changes the sound I hear in the room so I can mix with a flatter, clearer and more balanced soundscape. How well it works, time will tell. I need a bit of practise with it. Flicking the correction on and off is very fatiguing on the ear but the sound difference in the room is completely different between the two. I'll try and do a little video later and see if you can hear what I mean.

ah .... it's kinda like the plug ins I have for various studio mixing rooms that I can use with certain headphones .... of which I have a couple.
I listen in a different environment but it doesn't change the mix

Exactly that but a hardware version. Once set up it doesn't even have to be connected to the computer. It runs between you soundcard output and speakers. If you keep it connected to the computer you can change settings and mimic other set ups on the fly if you choose.

I'm not sure how well this will come across as it is video from my phone but it'll give you an idea of what I hear.

It's gotta be doing some mid/side thing. I hear it that way too

It doesn't add to or alter anything other than what I hear in the room.

The only thing I have changed is the levels of the tracks and EQ on tracks I felt needed it. The actual recorded files, panning, etc, are all the same.

The ARC has no influence on the sound that is put out from the DAW, it literally just changes what I hear in the room. I have it set to a flat kind of sound and it helps to hear things in the mix much better. It's really good, so far, in my opinion.

does it use a calibrated mic to determine what your room does so it can compensate to give you a flat monitor?

Did you already explain this and I missed it?

It should. I believe I saw a mic included in the box bundle the Clean got.
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”

Yes, it does. You can purchase the ARC unit without the mic if you already have one from an older release of ARC or purchase it with the mic.

It shows the microphone on the box. :coolstorybro:
