Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
Wifey bought me an early father's day gift. I've been intrigued by ukulele for a long time but never touched one. She did a fine job with this one. I'm old and just sit and plink around anyway, so this is a fun little departure from my usual stuff. It's cute.
Cordoba 20TM-ce tenor uke. Solid mahogany top is very red and pretty in real life. A little dull in this pic. Fit and finish is excellent. Lot's of fun in a tiny package!

It's the thing that @musicturtle teaches to all his kiddos in the schools.

Like some weird hybrid offset Fender / LP bastard child. I'd own one of those if it came in some cool color.

Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
A little late to actually say anything, but back in March I bought a matched pair of Neumann U87 Ai mics. The real deal. I was actually a little ashamed to admit buying such ridiculously expensive mics (much less 2 of them) but the shame has subsided. They're as awesome as I thought they'd be. They sound great on just about everything.
I actually got a sweet deal on them from a Reverb shop out of Madrid, Spain. Saved a couple grand on what they would have cost from a US retailer, even with shipping included. Of course, they arrived missing a shockmount and dust cover for one of the mics. I let the seller know, they ordered replacements from Neumann and shipped them to me. Took a few weeks to resolve, but they did the right thing and made things right.
So now you'll all get to hear my bad singing, sloppy playing, and wandering tempos in immense detail

That’s awesome, Tad! I really hope you like them! And it sounds like you have so far
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
I like that. Not huge on the knobs but I guess they match the scratch plate. And that already is a cool colour.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 2:08 pm well this is cool. A Kauer Starliner Deluxe ? Never heard of these before?

I have a Neumann condenser vocal stage mic which is really good. And I feel like a real pro/wanker when I ask Sound Guy for phantom power...
I didn't buy it, it was a "significant birthday" gift from a well-meaning, generous, but "musical equipment naive" cousin. A Sennheiser would have been fine at a third of the cost...

Damn @Tadpui you must be rich!
Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
Around 8 months ago I bought a brand new Tanglewood 12 String Acoustic just for noodling around on and recording for the future. But even after a couple of set up attempts, it was still really uncomfortable to play. 5 minutes on it gave me bad left hand cramp. It was truly a hideous guitar.
Fast forward a little and on Wednesday just gone, I saw my local guitar shop advertised a used (and pretty beat up) 1977 Yamaha 12 String, I had to check it out and it is awesome in comparison. Plays great, sounds sweet and no cramp. I brought it home yesterday and have barely put it down since. The Yammy has a much thicker neck and I'm thinking the slim neck of the Tanglewood vs my big hands worked against each other.
This is the old Tanglewood that went in a part exchange.
This is the Yammy. She's not the prettiest guitar in the world but I'm well happy with her!

Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
nice .... always liked those yammys
Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
I was, then I bought these mics. Now I'm not any more

I had a few windfalls all land in my lap at the same time, and it was my birthday so I finally pulled the trigger.
But hey I bet the Neumann is pretty great. I do love Sennheiser as a brand (I've got 3 pairs of their various headphones and a triplet of MD421 mics, and I really love them all). But that stage condenser is a pretty cool thing to have.Armistice wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 6:21 pm Nice!

Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
@Mr Clean I've always had a soft spot for Yamaha acoustic guitars. I think they make the best student/entry models on the planet. And their higher tiers of acoustic guitars are even better. Congrats and enjoy!
Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
Why on earth do I suddenly want to buy a 12 string that I have no use for.
Re: NEW GEAR!! Buying anything?
I have a Fender 12 string acoustic & a Harley Benton 12 string electric.
The Fender is MURDER the HB is sweet.
This is more to do with acoustic strings versus electric though I suppose.
