Nowhere Man - New Mix
Re: Nowhere Man - New Mix
Vocals are much better. The parts are spread across the stereo field well. The reverb on them is mono (or at least really narrow). That sounds a bit weird.
I wonder if you can spread the guitars out more? I'd prefer just a little wider mix.
The bass is really boomy. Very low end heavy.
But it's getting pretty dang good.

Another new mix in the OP, think I pretty much have it sorted out.
Good ear, the reverb bus was in mono for some reason. Fuller now I think.
Spread the acoustics a little more too.
Thanks, added a bit to that part, you were spot on, the low part was pulled down for some reason.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 8:05 am The vocals are blending together much better. I think George’s part could come up a tad. Just 2 or 3 dB, but it’s good!
Thanks! Put a high pass on the bass and played with the drum sounds. Helped a lot I think.JD01 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 8:19 am Vocals sound ace now! Don't have that grating "on my nose" feeling.
The bass has "that" sound, but its now a bit boomy/resonant.
The mix now feels like its pumping a bit, but I think that's down to the bass.
You need to do something about that bass, I'd start by hi-passing it, quite low down, see if that improves things, might also bring your kick-drum back into the mix a bit more as its currently getting crowded out.
Thanks! Treated the bass as suggested, better now.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 11:25 am The harmonies sound good. I like the new vocals
There's a huge suck of volume from the vocals when the bass first comes in.
It's not dissimilar from the technique of a lot of dance music where the kick drum ducks the entire mix hard and you get this intense pulsing on the 1/4 notes
Thanks! I heard that but thought it might have been my ears going wonky, but three of you commented on it. Think it's fixed now.

Yeah followed @JD01 's advice with the high pass. Cleaned it up quite nicely.
Re: Nowhere Man - New Mix
Listening to mix #3, but only on ear buds. Comparing the bass between mixes #2 and #3, I'm guessing you have my low end complaint taken care of. At least comparing the two mixes on ear buds.
The vocal reverb is spread nicely now.
My last nit is on the quality of the reverb. First, it sounds like it's gated - no natural decay. It's huge and then immediately goes away. To me it doesn't support the song well. Second, the reverb sound has a hyped midrange - maybe somewhere in the 1K-1.5K range. It gives the overall mix a boxy/lo-fi sound. If it were me I'd go with a reverb sound that's more balanced across the midrange, and give it a more natural (but fairly short - less than half-second) decay. Just a thought.

I worked with the verb some, I think it is better now. Listening to reverb changes can get your head spinning.TripleM wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 5:20 pm Listening to mix #3, but only on ear buds. Wow! Interesting juxtapositions after just listening to JD01s take on Elvis. Two different ways of covering a song. Listening to your final mix above, man, sounds fantastic, very authentic guitar tones, great playing and vocals are outstanding. Always loved the guitar solo in this that ends on that harmonic, you nailed it! Very awesome man, great job, enjoyed the listen !

Re: Nowhere Man - New Mix
I listened to the 0304_m6 mix.
The reverb is sounding pretty good to me now.
The bass isn't boomy anymore. It might even be able to be boosted a db or so.
The vocal changes tone at about :32 on the line "Nowhere Man please listen..." It sound qualitatively different than it did up to that point.
The big things are taken care of. It's sounding real nice.
