Unwritten Chick Code

Post by TripleM »

I recorded this one quite a few years ago. I went back and listened to it and I hated it. So I re-did the whole thing. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Unwritten Chick Code
I get bored each time this story's told
Cause chicks have this fogged out unwritten code
A locked up account of twisted tricks
The password known to only chicks
One thing's sure, us guys, we all get rolled

It's a girly thing. Guys face it - they're in control control
And they don't say the strings you have to pull
She hands out an incomplete
On standards that I just can't meet
And my razor wit always seems to come off dull

CHORUS
It's game on now and chick code's on the loose
It's a butt kicking - it's a wake up call for dudes
Well I got news, no you ain't through
It's sad when you find out what's true
It's just unwritten chick code getting you

The mess us dudes get in ain't tough to spot
You're writing poems in an empty parking lot
You always do just what you're told
'Cause see that's all part of the code
And you might get a little somethin', but probably not

SOLO
CHORUS

She dispenses freon out a fire hose
She got promises made of celluose
She just smiles like the Mona Lisa
And the girl on the cover of that Vampire Weekend...
Record... Yeah and you ain't close to close

CHORUS
CHORUS etc.

Sounds pretty good.

I might take the bgvox down a little bit on the chorus.
Lead guitar could probably come up just a little bit on the solo.

Cool Jam Trip!!!!

I shouldn't be commenting on the mix with the tinnitus i am currently am experiencing but I feel like the drums as a whole could come up a bit and also agree with VHS that the the BVOX could come down a bit and get a wee bit sent to the back a bit more. they hug pretty tight to the same space as the lead vox.

Other than that all the parts and pieces are pristine as per usual.

Fun song! Really enjoyed it. Love your harmonies. I agree that the drums might be able to come up a bit but, other than that, I thought it was great!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

@vomitHatSteve , @WhiskeyJack , @Alison

Thanks to all of you. So far just some tweaking of levels for improvements. Good to hear.

I tried a different drum kit on Superior Drummer on this one (Rockin Ayotte). And I didn't like it. I tried a bunch of different snares and nothing I tried really satisfied me. I'm going back to my favorite (Indie Rock Room).

Anyway, I'll listen to all those levels you all mentioned. Thanks again.

I always dig your music! For me the snare seems a bit flat lifeless, on this , and agree with other comments , could maybe come up a bit. Nice guitar solo!

New mix at the top.

Since nobody (including me) liked the drums, I swapped out the Rockin' Ayotte kit for the Indie Rock Room kit. It's a bit better - at least the snare pops better during the verses.

I adjusted some levels, including the BGv's. But honestly, I liked them louder. The level is down in Mix #2, but I think I'll eventually put it back to where it was.

Anyway, have a listen and let me know what you think.

Could I get one more quick listen to mix #2? I swapped out drum kits, and I'd like opinions on that.

The difference is pretty subtle. I can't say for sure that I really have a preference between the 2.

I think if i had to pick one i'd pick the 2nd mix. the drums feel like they have a bit less "space" around them than the first but i'm no longer struggling to trying to pick up the pieces.

#2 for me. :like: :like:

Thanks guys. I like #2 a little better myself - at least the drums.

Listening on headphones, drums /snare sound much better in mix #2, more "life" to them for sure. Great song!

Jumping straight in on Mix 2.
Main thing, I think the double tracked rhythms are a bit loud and the lead is a bit quiet
Given its got a kind of 60s stonsey sound, might be better if you didn't have the lead as a 3rd guitar, just get one of the rhythms to switch to lead licks when you need them.
Really like your vocals as usual.
