"Perception"
Going for a kind of throwback 80's vibe here. Still struggling with getting the bass guitar tone I hear in my head ...this is my 1st shot at vocals for this, wrote the lyrics a few hours ago and still getting the feel for how I want to sing them, so apologies in advance if it's a rough listen

Re: "Perception"
The left vocal leads in my headphones.
Lots of sibilant accentuation from the fx.
This sounds cool...my late 80s Yamaha FX500 is chockers with these tones and general wetness.
I like the structure and arrangement around the solo but I was waiting for a complete off the wall blast by the end of that build.

This is very cool! I love the beginning and I really like how you brought that back after the break. Frankly, I think the bass sounds great, it has a ring to it. I agree about the sibilance in the vocals but, other than that I loved it!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

I'm hearing the sync on the vocals too. Tho I think it's the right that's ahead.rayc wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 6:37 pm The left vocal leads in my headphones.

I like that gritty slapback bass tone a log. The other tone (it that run through a phaser or something?) sounds fine to me. It's a good contrast to the gritty one.

Re: "Perception"
Hey Ray, looked up that Yamaha FX500, interesting, I like a lot of the tones I heard on youtube...Im a sucker for that throwback chorusey type guitar for some 80s bands ( Marillion, Simple Minds, New order) . I wanted a distinct kind of vocal sound on this , leaning a bit left with a bit of a slapback hard right. I tracked the lead vocal 3 times and used the one I liked the best as the "main vocal" (mono - L) .I then copied it to a 2nd track , panned hard right and added that delay. The other 2 tracks are way down in the mix , both mono panned hard left and right, no delay/reverb, Im sure this is the completely wrong way to do vocals , Im just experimenting here. Now on all the vocals I used a EQ preset from my DAW called " male pop singer", maybe that's giving me the ssssilibant issue? My usual vocals are always buried and middy sounding, so I'm sure I'm overcompensating . Going to work on this later today and will remove the eq preset to see what it sounds like.rayc wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 6:37 pm The left vocal leads in my headphones.

Thanks Alison! I'm liking that bass better now that its growing on me...will try to de-essss the vocals

Thanks vomitHatSteve, Thats my Rik 4001 , I was messing with a delay sound similar to Pink Floyds "One Of These Days" from way way back in the day ....During the song , the bass has a bit of chorus on it, to kind of go along with the wet 80s vibevomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 11:41 am

Re: "Perception"
The stereo bouncing at the beginning was cool.
Not sure what effects were on the vocal. But I didn't care for the stereo effects on it. It was difficult to hear.
I'd like to hear the snare more forward (or other stuff pushed back).
Definitely an 80's vibe on the guitar tone/effects.

Hey TripleM, worked on this a bit today, tried to bring the snare up a smidge, also cut the synth and chorusy guitar back a bit, Un panned the vocals a bit not sure if you will be able to tell the difference on them or not also notched them at 7k to fight the sibilance.... anyways, I always appreciate your feedback, thanks again for listeningTripleM wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 9:49 pm The stereo bouncing at the beginning was cool.

Link at the top plays new mix or this as well:
Re: "Perception"
The vocal is much better in this version. You really got an 80's vibe on this one.
Things are sounding pretty good. The only thing you might want to take a listen to is the low end. It's kind of light during the verses.
Other than that, it's sounding good to me.
