My new direction...

Post by Armistice »

Not really... :lollers:

One of the tasks I set myself over the holidays was to work out properly how the damn VST synth I bought about 6 or 7 years ago worked. I used it a bit on the HH album on one or two tracks, mebbe...

Anyway, so did the inevitable upgrades and then dived in and eventually worked out some vague idea how to put sounds on particular tracks. Started with something stringy with oohs and ahs and then it all went horribly wrong and I'm now a fully-fledged house producah. All in half an hour...

3 individual tracks, each with 3 or 4 different synth voices, all playing the same basic MIDI pattern, or skip to the end and listen to the entire nightmare itself. :eep:
Synth1.mp3
Synth2.mp3
Synth3.mp3

SynthAllTogetherNow.mp3
GF, who was working downstairs, came upstairs and complained to the management. Guess I'd better find my headphones...

Reckon you could knock up an album in a day or two.

Cool :)

Which synth VST is this?

I bought the Arturia V collection several years ago, and I still haven't really gotten my money's worth out of it. It's so vast, with so many different old synth emulations, that I'll probably never explore it all.

Dark work David.
#3 sounds like a Casio from 1986.
When they finally decide to remake NeverEndingStory or The Labyrinth you'll be ready.
Soft Synths are as alien to me as Midi.
The 1st couple sound like they're good quality samples at least.
Cheers

So are you gunning for a career in soundtracks for first person role play sci fi video games? I think it sounds pretty great actually.

If so, he's unfortunately way behind the curve already.

I'm looking forward to the new direction, Armi!

this is the kinda thing I like to do!

I know it's just a proof of concept experiment but I really like it.
I'm kinda bored with 'let's recreate rock guitar from 35 years ago' ..... this is gonna be some of what I'll be doing with the super puter only with 50-60 more tracks!

Nice!

It's Spectrasonics' Omnisphere. Think GF got it for me as a birthday present and I pretty quickly got overwhelmed with the complexity. So far I can only make stereo tracks - was trying the 8 track option but couldn't get it to work. Shall continue to play around with it. I'm way further along than I got the first time though. Hours of mindless fun!

Trust me, MIDI defeats me too... I'm just programming this on the Reaper piano roll. No actual keyboard in use... although that's on the list once I have some space to get the electric piano out.

There are lots of "interesting" patches in this thing, to be sure - and something called "soundscapes" which might be where you find your video game stuff. Haven't worked out where that is yet... :frown: And lots of weird, weird patch names... :lollers:

Oh nice! Yeah, that thing is extremely complex, from what I've seen. It can do some really crazy and amazing things though.

I've actually come close to buying it a few times over the years, but I never have pulled the trigger on it. Let us know how you like it once you've had a chance to get to know it better.

Cool.

I thought Synth1 sounded OK, but a slight bit boxy.

Synth2 was cool sounding.

Synth3 was nice enough, but I'm personally not in to clean synth sounds. Too "video gamey" for me.

Synth4 was an improvement over 3. Maybe just because of the other stuff added.
