Alternate your feet on the pedals. Then alternate the sticks on the snare and hat, but twice as fast

I did that for an hour and a half last night πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘†

These little Roland's have come a long way since I last used one. Some of the kits sound ok ish. The velocity sensitivity is way more sensitive than I recall and there is a few other little features that seem interesting. There is supposed to be a coach of some sort built I to the box but I couldn't find it.

This also has Bluetooth connectivity so I managed to grt that connected to my phone and was able to limp along to something cool as a guide.

Have fun! I keep telling people that drums are the most fun instrument to be bad at. You just hit 'em!

If you've got a long enough USB cable, plug the controller into your computer, activate it in Reaper as a MIDI input, and you can drive EZ Drummer with the eKit. And you'll have the MIDI file long after you return the kit so you can continue to tweak the timing in your project and all that.

Yes tad, exactly. This would be where I would like to go with it 100% but right now I have bigger problems. Namely that I can't seem to get my lead hihat hand to stop doing what my kick leg is doing. Its frustrating as hell.

Also I spent about two hours at it last night just going back and forth between my left and right hand as lead hand and I am pretty well convinced my left is the more natural hand for that. So I'm going to move all the parts and pieces around tonight or tomorrow night to set it all up lefty and see where that gets me.

But if there is any guidance for the disconnection of my hi hat hand to my kick leg thay would be great. I think I blame my car driving drumming. I have, ever since I could remember, had my left thumb as a kick drum the right thumb as my snare. 40 some years of programming my brain to things thay way are likely going to be hard to unwire.

The nice thing about midi drums is that they're really easy to quantize! You just hit whatever, and then tell Reaper to snap it to the grid.

Like anything, it's just muscle memory to keep a beat. Start simple and get some basics down. YouTube tutorials help.

Best thing I ever did was borrow a kit off a friend. Three months later I bought my own. Great fun!

haha, maybe you PM'd me that one!

I'm pretty sure it was you that originally told me about that - it can be subtle, but it makes such a difference.

I ripped the kit apart last night and flipped it all around to be setup for a lefty. An improvement set up wise but some of the the little cables are maxed out 😬😬😬 im also not sure how it should be set up and where everything should be sitting relative to how I sit. But ill figure it out.

Where is the ideal placement for a snare drum? Height wise. I think Iwas hitting my thigh lots with my wrist or forearm?! Maybe the throne is too high?

Regardless of all that I sat last night and fumbled my way thru Weezers sweater song. I feel like that is safe and fun jumping off point. Didn't do too bad I don't think. Definitely not worth documenting at this point as I found i was so focused on keeping the beat i wasn't really paying attention to the changes in the song and also it does get a little squirrely at the end of the song and I was just skipped the song back to the start.

I did,however, nail that opening fill 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣

Actually you know what... I just totally thought of something. Rather than disassemble the whole fucking kit I should have just angled the legs the opposite way around and it would make made a left handed mirror image of itself and then would ah wonky required a few tweaks thus mitigating the maxed outcable issue.

Duh....

Small update.

As expected my time commitment to this has been small i rented it for another month. I've been trying to work in an couple hours every other night or when I can. Having fun. Not really playing anything I 'want to' like all my favorite punk songs or drum beats. YouTube lessons are fucking slow moving and boring as batshit.

So far I have been able to work my way thru a couple songs I do like that are slow and aside from the really intense fills and stuff I can get pretty close to start to finish.

Weezers Sweater Song, and Drag the Rivers witchita skyline is really fun to play along too. I can almost get that weird hi hat brake thing like 60% of the time. Trying a couple other ones but they are tough and not worth mentioning.

Having fun. It is fun.

Wichita Skyline always makes me think of @Tadpui because I think it's in Kansas and also because I want to be as good as tad at some point.

Ok bye.

Hey @WhiskeyJack glad to hear you're having fun banging on the ekit. Although I wouldn't hold me up as a standard to strive for, I can barely keep a beat on a good day :D

I guess that I am closer to Wichita than ever before in my life. Maybe not as the crow flies, I think my hometown is actually closer by a few miles...but no direct routes. I can't say that I've ever spent any time in Wichita though, other than driving through it on my way to someplace else. It's not exactly a destination city :)
