I put together a fun little blind test because I still can’t believe how insanely close to Freddie Mercury this guy is. Recording involves Mercury’s demo of Bohemian Rhapsody and Martel’s recording.
I put a lo-fi tape plug-in on Martel’s version and a little reverb on Mercury’s (because he didn’t have that) to make it harder to tell based on audio quality alone. You all will still probably tell because you have good ears, but so far, people not into recording or super mega Queen fans like Bob, Ray and I are Beatle fans are completely stumped.

Mercury Vs Martel
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
Re: Mercury Vs Martel
Close but there's lot missing. he has a lot of the nuances as well as a really good approximation of tone but it misses stuff. In one the breathiness is showy but in the otehr is nearer cabaret. As years go by ANATOpera gets fewer plays from me while Q -> SHA get more.
Cheers

Re: Mercury Vs Martel
The backing track is making me think that.
But the actual vocal of #1 sounds more like the original recording. And the pitch drift on it, sounds more authentic to the era.
That big voice crack on "die" is wild tho.
Is this the cover recording you're going from Crows?

@vomitHatSteve and @CrowsofFritz
Yeah I think that Martel is a great mimic of the final studio version, that's what fooled me.
Listening to it again, the rawness of a demo comes through in Mercury's take.
