Am I Crazy

Post by rammer24 »

So, this is the last one for a while. I'll be re-arranging the studio for the next few weeks. I just had time to finish this.

Let me know how this sound. Can I turn down the vocals?

Well, its immediately a Rami song.
The lead on that comes in on the right (sounds a bit like an open wah noise) at 54s and repeats a bit through that section seems a little quiet.
Fucking cool bass tone at 2:00
MY of "My Brain" jumps out a bit too much at 2:57
Don't think you want to turn the vocals down much if at all.

OK, thanx, Not a wah, but I know what part you're referring to. I can turn that up.

I'll check that out. I can automate it down.

Damn it. I was hoping I could. :D

Thanx a lot for the detailed help. I'll look into all of that. :punk:

Rami, very cool - particularly the gentle 1st verse vocal before the aggression of the chorus.
You could bring the vocals down a dB or so but most folk like them on top. I like 'em inside a little - personal preference.
The start to the solo is really cool - as is the solo but I like the intro even more.
Cool and sorted.
Cheers

Thanx a lot Ray. I'll probably leave the vocals where they are, even though I'm like you. I like treating them like another instrument, rather than putting them in the spotlight.

That shit's tighter than a virgin's peehole.

Real good. Once again, I really got nuthin. I'm not crazy about the character of the gain when your guitars go low, but that's personal preference. The mix is very solid. No problem with the vocal level to me. That bass tone is fantastic.

You talking about the verses, when I sing soft like a fag?

Lol no. I mean like in the second half of the verses when the guitars go low...like the thick low notes. It's a little mushy to me.

Oh, I see. You meant literally low. I thought you meant volume. OK, I wonder if the tone of the "second" guitar (which is really the 3rd since the 1st is doubled) is what's muddying things up. Thanx for that.

Don't worry about it. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not really "muddy". It's just my retarded personal preference would do it a hair cleaner.

No but I'm glad you mentioned it. It will plant a seed in my brain for next time. I still make the "mistake" of equating "heavy" with "more gain". I'll try to keep that in mind.

You're like a fucking rabbit. :P
Did you have a bunch of songs in the works that just needed finishing...or have you been recording non-stop the last couple of weeks? :D

Yeah, me too on the studio rearranging...well, not the whole studio...but I kinda went nuts and got new monitors, so now I'm going to reevaluate that shit I was working on.

So yeah, another Rami special...a solid performance and mix.
I found the transition right at the start of the vocals a bit odd sounding...like I dunno...felt like a skipped beat and then the real low vocal part.
I get the effect you wanted...soft and then raging guitars...it's just how it transitions from the opening to the soft, that was kinda odd sounding...but then from the soft to the raging guitars was fine, and everything after that.

I usually have at least 3 songs going at the same time. But the last couple were in different stages at different times. I didn't crank one new song after the other.

I hired a carpet cleaner to get deep into that mother fucker. I'll have to move my desk, etc...

Yeah, it is weird. It probably could have been smoother, or my idea didn't quite pull it off. It starts on "1 and", not "1". So, in a way, it does literally skip a beat. Oh well, it's quirky. As long as it doesn't ruin the song, I'll wait until it goes platinum and then people will say it's genius. :D :D :D
but then from the soft to the raging guitars was fine, and everything after that.
Thanx a lot, Miro.

I like the low-pitched guitar. It's a good bit of sonic variety.

the "on" of "mirror on the wall" is pitchy. Might wanna re-track that.

If you want them to, the vocals could probably come down a touch. They don't need to tho.

My humble opinion - leave everything as is :) I think I noticed a different reverb on stuff (vocals/guitars) but not throughout (at least it only pops out every so often). It's very "silky" as the Neve guys like to say. If it's the same as before then I just didn't pick up on it originally. Ya that bass is to die for. But so are all they myriad of parts in this song.

Fuck, I'm just going to kill myself now, as I will never get this good - playing, recording or mixing. J/K bit it did cross my mind for a second there.

Thanx Ido. I'm not sure if I ever deliberately use the same reverb on any song. I use what I think the song calls for. So, it's possible I used something different on this one.

I'll be honest, since I don't believe in false "Aw shucks" modesty. My last few songs have been really good songs and my mixes have reached a new level. I don't even know why or how, but I hear it.

BUT, I still think my voice is the weakest link in all of this. I'm not saying t sucks, it's just the one thing that I think/wish could be better.

I have to agree, your stuff is always excellent but this one has a little something that has taken it to a higher level. Now don't screw it up when you remodel your room lol. Take lots of before measurements or something. I remember you questioning your last "remodel" and I don't want you to have to worry about that once everything is set back up :coolstorybro:
