What I Want
What I Want
I did this one several years ago. I re-listened to it awhile back and it was horribly muddy. So I re-did it (complete re-track etc.).
For those who care about lyrics...
What I Want
I want to make believe as if I care
I want to screw you over fair and square
I want our secrets swept up with a broom
I want the things we said kept in this room
I want no-one to find out I'm stupid
I want half a chance only to goof it up
I want to cause a problem and then complain
I want Area 51 explained
I want a girl with long long legs
and a short short memory
I'd like to blame this on you
But I'll blame it on me
CHORUS
So gimm'me gimm'me gimm'me. Why all the hassle
I'm kind of picky in the things I like
I didn't want that but thanks for asking
I didn't say, "No," but then I might
I want to go to Vegas and bet my soul
I want Nostradamus' line on the Super Bowl
I want a drummer that plays like a metronome
I want Hoffa exhumed from the end zone
I want to read that book by Nabokov
I want to look really good with my shirt off
I want to ask an interesting question
Oh the hell with that I hate those questions (alternate: I want to think up a rhyme with question)
I want to run the siren on a firetruck
I want to learn to talk like Donald Duck
I'd like to blame this on you
But I'll blame it on luck
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Donald Duck is a registered trademark of the Disney Corporation
I hope this song never makes it big because I used it without permission
I want to sound the opposite of Eddie Vedder
I want to write his songs but pick the words a little better
I want to bring you up instead of down
I want to build an ark instead of drown
I want to know why I feel dejected
I want to know what's on my permanent record
I want to feel Houdini's presence
I want to use 'Depeche Mode' in a sentence
I want a t-shirt that reads, "Event Staff"
I want Stuart Copeland's autograph
I want it all on you
But I'll settle on half
CHORUS
CODA
And so like I tell you with a smile and a taunt
Gimm'me gimm'me gimm'me that's what I want
Mix #1

COOOOOL song.
The only nit I have is that you main vocal seems a little thin...like you're at the top of your range or something.

Re: What I Want
I love that bridge.
My favorite bridges are always the single one-liner out of nowhere.

Ha ha, very cute tune. Poppier than usual from you?
My only comment is that I'd perhaps get hold of the backing vocals group fader and turn them down just a smidge - I could be wrong but because there's a lot of layers in that I think it might be overwhelming the "sing it with me!" nature of the chorus (and verse) just a little.
Just a personal taste thing, though.
Nice work.

Re: What I Want
Thanks @rayc @vomitHatSteve and @Armistice
Let me take a listen to the thinness of the lead vocal. I might see if I can bump the low end without making it muddy or cloudy.
I'll also re-listen to the harmony level. I like harmonies up in the mix more than most, so it might be a personal preference thing as suggested. But I'll re-listen with that in mind.
Thanks again.

Re: What I Want
When I first listened to this the other day I thought it sounded familiar but couldn't put my finger on it. Turns out I downloaded the old version of it way back when.
Comparing the two, this is definitely a nice, stronger, brighter mix. A little bit lofi maybe, but I like it. Good job

Cool song @TripleM
I agree the lead vox sounds a bit thin, but I like the harmony vocal level.
Love the little outro after you think the song is over.
Well done.

Thanks @musicturtle and @Mr Clean. I appreciate it.
Re: What I Want
Not bad. So many words! It's the usual stuff for me. Your vocals sound good overall but you're constantly sounding like you're at the very end of your range and out of gas. Guitars have a nice jangly power-pop tone. A little scratchy, but not too bad.
Who's doing your drums? They sound like it's probably a real human. I like the drum performance but they sound very small and weak in the mix. More punch and presence from the kick, more body from the snare, get them up as loud as everything else so it all gels.

Re: What I Want
LOL cool jam Trip. I always enjoy your lyrics haha.
I think i gotta echo Greg on this one too. The drums need some umph and more of a color in the mix. The performance is great they just need a bit of a fluffing up.
