Lerch The Perch

Have not posted in awhile as any free time I get for music has been used to kick a new band off the ground. We have been writing/collabinb on line for new material before we play it together live...here is a newer one called "Lerch The Perch". Wondering how it sounds to fresh ears...

That was fun but more than 30% was guitar solo. Interesting solo but that's a lot of it.
Not a fan of the panned vocals though.

Bit of a weird mix, particularly the vocal.
The vocals are really dry and hard panned which is just strange and it makes them seem really loud in comparison to the music.
I think the bass guitar and kick drum need to come up a bit, actually, when you've got all those guitars in.... the drums are a bit quiet - the leads could be a bit quieter and "in the mix" more.

Cool song though and great guitar playing, good guitar sounds. Doesn't bother me that there's loads of guitar solo, its your song, do what you want.

Has a distinct Larry LaLonde (primus) vibe to it.

I think i agree with JD. The vocals are sitting right on top of the entirety of the whole mix. Might be worth going back and seeing how you could remix those into the song a bit better really. Bring them down and glue them in with some shared reverb maybe?

The solos are also sort of dominating the whole mix as well. Just needs some adjustment to blend in together a bit better.

You guys must not listen to anything where vocals and words matter.
Listen to Zappa or Manhattan Transfer or any group that features vocals or lyrics ..... vocals have to be where you can understand the words .......
I don't agree that the vocals need to be backed off at all. They, and the words to this, are the single most important thing and should be mixed as such.

Also don't find there to be too much guitar work.

maybe that's in the rule book of how to make your mix sound like everyone else's .... nice and sterile with nothing that sticks out.

+1 on the vocals being a bit too loud and too dry.

I like the octave harmony on them tho. The panning isn't terrible to me, but I could picture them being a little closer to center.

The guitar solo sections seem pretty well mixed. It is a lot of the overall song, but it's a short song, so I guess two solos is gonna be a big chunk.

I like the rhythm guitar sound.

The vocal sound is pretty cool. Really dry - especially when compared to the rest of the tracks. And just a bit boxy. They sound weird, but for some reason, I liked the way it works. Maybe a little cut somewhere between 500hz - 1Khz to reduce the boxiness.

Some really cool guitar playing.

I also like the bizarreness of the song.

If it were me, I'd reduce the low end of the bass just a bit and then turn up its overall level.

I'm only listening on my laptop so I' can't hear the hard pan of the vocals - it all sounds OK to me - a little dry on the vocals perhapsa. I'm not getting much kick though, which I think someone else mentioned.

Also have no problems with the sort of Zappa-esque excursion into guitar soloing. Can see this would work really well live, especially if you can pull that level of solo off live. Very nice playing.
