Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
The writing and arrangement process was a lot more incoherent on this one. It definitely needs another pass or two (or 5)
Lemme know any obvious broken parts

I was just watching a show about John Lennon's Plastic Ono band album and it sorta reminds me of that a little ..... really cool
I likes it!

Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
I had goat curry on Friday night - does that count?
They've replaced the Miku pedal with a Baby Goat pedal?
This is, dare I say it, pretty trad: a good melody, structure, chord progression, vocal and a few overlays of VHSness of course.
Cool.
I like itI'd be inlcined to pull the wide panned bvox down a little and, maybe, in a little just to suss out how it sounds but I like it as is.

I think the screaming goat noises should be panned - maybe bouncing back and forth. They're all over your lead vocal.
Same the the weird keyboardy "ooo-ah-oh" noises.
I find it really hard to comment on your stuff, Steve. Its just so weird.

Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
It's my friend chris. I wrote this one during an online convention based on random quotes from the event and audience suggestions.
I had chris there to act as hype and bgvox whenever I had to pause to take notes
Then I picked out his best sounds and ran them through reasamplomatic
Ray, thanks for spotting the loud bgvox. I'd thought they were too high. Good to have confirmation

Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
Yeah, I just figured out how to build them in reaper a year or so back.
It's lots of fun. I've watched videos of hardware ones, and they don't seem super complicated (if you have the manual)
Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
yeah ...... a friend with a home studio uses one for vocal harmonies ..... like for a chorus they don't have to get it perfect multiple times .... he just samples the first one they get right and sticks it on the other choruses.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:34 pmYeah, I just figured out how to build them in reaper a year or so back.

Very cool and useful

Why do I have it? My wife bought it for me...I was firmly ensconced in DAW land but she had a bipolar moment and bought it.
Some interesting FX inbuilt though.

I could see that for DAWless recording, yeah.Lt. So that's a pretty big sampler if it can hold an entire chorus worth of a part as a single sample, I suppose?

I have an old Roland stand alone 8 track CD workstation that has eight sample pads and can sample from any input or from CDs...it's fun but I don't use it.

Sampling from CDs seems like a very '90s technology (both from a tech perspective and a legal one)
Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
it was an Otari reel to reel
I don't remember what his sampler was but my keyboard is limited to the size of the card you're using .... ships with a 4G card but will support up to 64G.
I don't know that much about them but I will eventually as I incorporate the new keyboard into my gigging

Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
64G is a lot of space for just audio. You have a pretty long set list tho, don't you? I could picture you filling it up still.
Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
actually no because my files are MIDI files ...... so my songlist is (I'm not exactly sure anymore ) maybe 650-700 songs and it takes up maybe 50 meg! Maybe a little more .... hell .... lemme go look .... ... lol, oh hell .... 30 meg!vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 5:23 pm 64G is a lot of space for just audio. Individual files are 100k at most and many are less than 10k-20k
If I start using the sampler then I'll probably need the larger cards but for MIDI files the 4G that came with it is way more than enough.
I could get tens of thousands of MIDI files on a 4G card.

Oh yeah. I'd forgotten you converted everything to that new midi format recently.Lt. ===================
New mix in the OP
BGvox are turned down
Chris' weird synth voice now ping-pongs in the panning
Additional drum samples for fun and giggles
Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
I like the new mix and really like the ping ponging ........ I always like panning stuff.
I really like this song BTW and I just love the use of the bizarre sound.
It's creative ... manages to be musical ..... really cool

it was always MIDI ..... just a Roland specific version which is what i had to convert to standard MIDI and actually about 150-200 songs wouldn't convert so I'll have to do them over from scratch .... prolly won't bother with the Nickleback though!vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 9:52 pmOh yeah. Thanks!
Yeah, I remember you'd posted a thread about the conversion project but forgot the specifics.

Re: Screaming Goat- new vhs madness
I went straight to mix #2.
Lots of cool stuff going on. I like the vocal tone. Guitars sound cool too. Synth parts are cool. Interesting lyrics.
The kick, to me, has way too much low end. It's just blasting through the speakers and can make it hard to focus elsewhere. The bass guitar has a bit too much low end. At least in the verses.
